Have any of you seen the show Ivy Dreams?

How do you know that was THE sophie xiong we’re talking about?
and how do you know Mike’s homeless?

^Nice post count.

I looked up Mike on Facebook, and he has two jobs at clothing stores where he folds clothes and that sorta stuff that Hollister employees do. And he’s at an okay college in Pennsylvania.

Was he being serious? He put that he was voted most flirtatious on his application.

Aww poor Mike…srsly if he did his research right and kknnew about the SAT 2 scores he might’ve had a shot  he probably also could have gotten into some decent schools had he done his research thoroughly & apply to more schools…if only he had some college guidance
But seriously, I think it’s so stupid to apply to a school simply bc it’s prestigious or ivy league.I believe that they are missing out on a lot…whhen choosing a college a lot of it should be fit and where you think you’d be the happiest ----not prestige. Also, I hated how that one girl read her non-ivy acceptance letters …way to be arrogant lol.

This proves that Sophie did something with her life.

“Harvard Princeton Yale. Everything else is lower class”

hahaha my grandparents must think this to some degree… D:

I loved this documentary! Even though I thought it was messed up that they only did Asain people

Guys, Mike is now a dance teacher/choreographer (from facebook). Hope this means he is not homeless lol

That was an awesome show!

Depressing if you ask me

I agree, I got hooked on this show, I wish they would do it again with four new kids. (How about immigrant kids from say Mexico or Africa?) While the kids profiled were asians, this really could be anyone. I think a big message is that the kid without support did not fare well. As a parent I saw myself in many of the parents, especially the parent who was worried that her daughter was spending too much time on social media, and not enough time working on her SAT. I think there are many Tiger parents out there, and most are not Asian.
As far as Diane-I too was surprised that she got in to both Harvard and Yale, BUT, I found her to be a very honest person, down to earth and grounded as opposed to self satisfied or egotistical. When you come to college confidential, the obnoxious factor of some of the applicants makes one queasy. I have a feeling that Diane did very well on interviews.
I wish Mike had known about Questbridge-even with his low SATs, I think he could have done a bit better if he had been part of this program.

Yeah those immigrant kids would be good. Let’s go round some up…

Edit: How many African immigrant children do you actually know? That’s not how they came to be here…

I liked that documentary in that when I’m annoyed with my Asian parents, I just remember how much worse they could be.

I’m pretty sure MTV is in the process of making a similar “documentary”.

How did they film this? Did they film all the scenes after they happened?

I found Sophie on LinkedIn, and she’s currently enrolled in a MA program at Johns Hopkins SAIS-Nanjing. This is what her profile summary says: “Sophie Xiong is a 2010 graduate of Washington and Lee University with a degree in East Asian Languages and Literature, and minors in Creative Writing and Dance. She enrolled as an M.A. candidate in International Studies at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center in fall of 2011, with a focus on China Studies.”

Good for her! I am sure her father is proud of her:)

I feel like such a stalker lol but since I found the three girls on LinkedIn (couldn’t find Mike since I didn’t know his last name), here are some updates:

*Sophie Xiong: BA in East Asian Languages and Literature, and minors in Creative Writing and Dance from Washington and Lee University. She’s currently enrolled in a MA program at Johns Hopkins SAIS-Nanjing. Good for her! I am sure her father is proud of her

*Michelle Ting: BA in Government and East Asian Studies from Dartmouth College. She currently works as Associate at Korn/Ferry International, PA. You can see on her profile page that she has built up pretty good work experience (she must’ve lost a lot of weight too; she’s looking very pretty!)

*Diana Shen: BA in Statistics (!!) from Yale University. She currently works as Actuarial Assistant at Liberty International Underwriters, NY. Diana also seems to have pretty good work experiences, and you can see her cute and humble smile in her profile picture as well:)

Does anyone have update on Mike? Anyway, I am gald to see that everyone seems to be doing well in their own ways:)

Excellent research notatigerclub. I think it looks like all of them are pretty well off. It shows that even if you don’t get into, say, Harvard or MIT, ambition will still drive you far.

I wish they would make another…
