He started reading at two: as in self-taught. I thought that this was normal until our daughter went through her preschool years.

Well, speaking of majors, my DD plans to major in CS… I started out in CS but finished w/Physics. It will be interesting to see if she sticks with it. She’s more of a generalist (like me) and CS is a focused major.

A lot of implementations of CS degrees are focused but programs don’t have to be that way. The components are usually programming, hardware, theory and a specialization or project area. This base opens up a wide variety of opportunities in many different directions. A lot of CS grads go into programming and software engineering but they could also go into hardware or research.

A little off-topic here, but I just read an article about a handful of schools offering a degree in computer forensics, including a local college here in Ohio, called Defiance College. Then I heard how they tracked down that Craigslist killer using IP addresses. This could become a very useful degree in the future.

Changed major? D enrolled as undecided (possibly psychology), and is still undecided. Although she leans towards majoring in psychology with a foreign language minor. Things might change when she completes all of the distribution courses.

My daughter is considering getting an AA in this major at a community college. I’d be very happy if she went into CS but I think that it would be rather scary for her in the weeded courses.
