What to Expect
Day 1

When you check in for Camp Texas, you will come to the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center where you will be greeted by your counselors and members of the Texas Exes staff. As soon as you arrive, you will begin to meet your fellow campers who will be in your small group and cabin. You will be in the company of students from all over Texas, the country, and several international areas.

From the Alumni Center, you will board buses and journey off to Camp Balcones Springs near Marble Falls (about an hour from campus). Upon arriving, you will be amazed by the lush landscape, relaxing common areas, air-conditioned cabins, and well-balanced meals. This isn't your typical "camp". It's a retreat destination with all of the fixin's.

The first day of Camp Texas will be focused on team building and exploring your personal leadership style.

Camp Texas hosts some of the university’s greatest leaders the first night of camp. University administrators and staff members travel to camp to enjoy dinner and share their insights with you.

Day 2

The University of Texas is an extremely diverse community offering many resources and opportunities. On the second day of camp, you will meet more of your fellow campers and counselors, and explore your interests while there

You’ll be joined by UT professors who will lead short talks on your classroom experience at the university. They come prepared, including Dr. David Laude, Associate Dean in the College of Natural Sciences. He makes homemade ice cream while talking to students at camp. Dr. Brent Iverson will lend you extremely helpful study tips as you prepare to succeed in all of your courses. You will have the opportunity to hear two professors speak, and they look forward to joining you for lunch.

After lunch, you will compete with your team in the Camp Texas Olympics. The Camp Texas Olympics are a series of land and water competitions. Not a strong swimmer or decorated athlete? There’s a role for everyone during the Olympics.

Did we forget to mention free time? Several hours are set aside each day of camp for campers to just hang out and enjoy themselves. The lake features the “Blob", rope swing, canoes, swimming, and water slide. There are also other recreational opportunities to enjoy during free time, including tennis, basketball, billiards, volleyball, and more!

Day 3

Before heading back to Austin, you’ll talk about all you’ve learned, do some final group activities, share goals, and exchange information so you can contact your fellow campers and counselors when you return to campus.

and

Why Attend
Experience Texas

The University of Texas is an exciting place and at Camp Texas, you’ll get to feel that excitement. Some of the university’s most celebrated professors will travel out to share fun, interactive mini-lectures, then sit down for lunch with you. UT Administrators from Housing, Financial Services, Rec Sports, and even big-wigs such as the president and provost of the university, come to field questions and give helpful hints. And the inspiring crew of counselors includes student leaders from around campus ready to help you take your own steps as a campus leader.

Make Friends

UT students come to Camp Texas to make friends. Between structured team challenges and relaxing free time, opportunities to connect with other freshmen abound. Bond with your group while competing in the Water Olympics or stay up late into the night chatting with a cabin mate. Meet your future neighbors and classmates during the Dorm/College Match-up. Whether from a small town or a big city, one thing’s for sure—you’ll arrive on campus with a host of new friends.

Get Blobbed

More than anything else, Camp Texas is about having fun. Whether playing volleyball during free time, enjoying dinner theater lakeside, or dancing at the luau, we guarantee you won’t be bored. With a rope swing, waterslide, and floating dock at the lake, cooling off from the Texas sun has never been so entertaining. Then there’s the Blob—a giant balloon-like bag of air onto which “blobbers” jump to catapult each other into the water. There’s no better way to end your summer than by beginning your college career with Camp Texas.
