I'm a senior, but I'm not completely set on all the schools I'm applying to. (Don't worry; I'll get it done! I've applied to a couple already.)
Do you think I have my bases covered? I want to get a BA in music (possibly BM at Northwestern or Ithaca) and anthropology. 2280 SATs, 4th out of 442, lots of extracurriculars. I'm not sure where I stand with classical voice; I'm caught somewhere preparedness-wise between a liberal arts college and a top conservatory. I've attended summer programs and taken voice lessons, but I don't think my voice has enough depth/richness yet when singing classical repertoire.

So do you think I'm okay choice-wise?
Northwestern (BM) and UMD (BA), both waiting on prescreening (realized later that UMD prescreening was really bad)
Washington College (accepted, $20,000 scholarship/year, pres. fellow but music scene almost nonexistent)
Ithaca College (BM in combo w/ outside field, alternate-BA)
Gettysburg College (BA)
Vanderbilt University (BA)
Princeton
Brown
Harvard
Skidmore College

I’m not sure what you’re aking. Certainly you should be accepted by ithica, Skidmore and Gettysburg. You have strong stats and have a shot at the others, though as we only know the one EC it’s very hard to say.

Ok, good to know about Ithaca, Skidmore, and Gettysburg! I really love Gettysburg, so I’m glad it’s not that selective. I was just asking if I should figure I’ll get into at least one of my schools. I have trouble trusting I can count on getting into one music school, since I already got rejected once (but it was Oberlin).

Your grades suggest that you’re ready academically, but I’m not sure how auditioning for voice works at some of these schools. For conservatories, I don’t have enough knowledge of how your talent matches up to their vocal talent pool. Plus, an audition is necessary, so you will have to get through that, first. For some of these schools that offer a BA, an audition may not be necessary because you are going to study music (versus vocal performance). Your vocal training may be helpful in music classes as you already have training. I guess the answer to your question is: it depend on which school and it also depends on what you want to do. For this list, if you want to study music (and not audition for music performance) I would say this is a good list with safeties, targets and reaches.

I have to audition for all the schools except the ivies and Skidmore, even the ones where I want a BA, but I think they expect less of BA auditionees than performance auditionees. I’m just hoping that I can figure I’ll get into Gettysburg, Ithaca, or Vanderbilt, even though they have an audition. I know you guys don’t know my voice, so I’m not looking for a prediction or anything! Just thought I’d check if other people thought I was playing it safe enough with my choices.

betc27, You are probably having some last days before application panic … relax. It will all play out and you can then make some choices. Your stats are excellent, so hopefully the right school sees your potential. Good luck!
