I am an international student and have a question about transfer admissions.

The first year starts in September in America. And those students who wish to transfer in the sophomore year have to get their apps in by mid-February. Does that mean as soon as you enter colleges in September, within 2-3 months, you again have to start the whole rigmarole of the application process...writing essays, getting recs, filling out forms????????????

I mean, haven't you just finished with all that and entered colleges, and you have to do the whole thing again within moths of entering colleges?

Sounds strange

it doesnt work like that.

a person in america enters college for 4 years.

1st year-freshman
2nd year-sophmore
3rd year -junior
4th year - senior

you do not apply to every year.
you apply as a freshman, into the school, one time, and then you can stay at the school until you graduate, that takes four years.

Or, if you choose to not go to a university from high school, you would then apply as a transfer student.

As a transfer student, you apply to either be a sophmore/junior/ or senior... depending on if the school accepts students for that transfer year and how many units you have completed.

Or if you went to a university from high school and you do not like your university , you would then attempt to transfer to another university. ONce again you would transfer at either the sophomore / junior/senior level, i think the majority of transfers occur at the junior level.

Also, a lot of schools start in August in the US. (late august)

i hope that helps.

Thanks, I basically knew all that but I was especially thinking about those who transferred in their sophomore year. Don't they have to start their application process around december of their freshman year in college?

not necessarly, for the UC's for example, to apply for fall semester you have to send in your application by nov30th of the previous year.

depends on the school.

deadlines for filing range anywhere from Nov-march.... some are even later.
