I am a current high school senior. I have a 4.33 GPA and a 2000 SAT score. As a junior, I took AP calculus and passed with a 5. So this year I decided to concurrently enroll at local community courses for early college credit. I'm taking 5 units of calculus based physics and 5 units of calculus II. My dilemma is I'm not doing so hot in the calc class, turns out it requires more time and work than I expected or have available. I briefly addressed it in my college apps additional statements stating I'd be happy to retake the course if I don't end up with a likeable grade but have I screwed up my record or will colleges see the ambition and good experience I got out of this and look past it? Also do I HAVE to send in this transcript to the colleges I'm applying to?

Hi Livinglikelim,

I’m not exactly sure how college credit during high school works. The only advice that I can think of that is similar to this is that some college students don’t transfer their credit from community college (if they’re only taking 1 summer class, or similar) because it’s a bad grade. I think if you have taken other classes from the same community college and want to transfer them over, the bad grade will transfer over as well to your University. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think it might be similar in your situation too.

I hope others will provide a better answer. Good luck!

Yes you have to send the college transcript.

Since you are overloaded this term, if it is not too late to drop tha calculus and get a W or WPassing, it is OK to do that.

A W isn’t going to hurt you at most schools. I would do that if I knew I was going to not do very well.

Yes, you have to report it. What, to you, is a “likeable” grade? If it is a B, then it won’t be seen negatively. The admissions people will be more impressed with the fact that you are taking the class at all than thinking negatively about a B since you are in high school and you are taking on a lot for yourself. Same thing with a W.

I went to withdraw by the printed date on the class syllabus, unfortunately he gave us the wrog date and the real deadline passed 2 days prior…frustrating. I have no way of seeing my grade in the class, that’s just the professor’s style. But by the looks of the work and tests I would say if I’m lucky I’d make it in the low C range. I’m hoping the A and 5 in Calc 1 could show my potential and that this extra class I chose to do doesn’t hurt me in the end
