I received an email 10/29 for an alumni interview for Emory University, where I applied ED. I did not see the email, so on 11/7 the interviewer responded saying that if i did not reach out he would assume I was not interested. I only saw the email 11/11, where I responded, apologizing for not seeing the emails and asking if there was an empty slot for me. I got the last slot, but as sorry as I am I fear I messed up the interview before it has begun, and ultimately my chances of being admitted. Is there anyway I can bounce back from this at my interview or have I blown my chance completely.
BTW- i could not put the category as Emory university for some reason…so sorry!
Did you get any response back from the interviewer ?
If he can fit you in, then you will have an interview, just make sure to check your email couple of times a day, and respond promptly. (check Spam)
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, since you responded to his email (albeit late).
Yes, I got the last free spot! Thank you so much for calming my nerves, and I check my email countless times a day now out of sheer anxiety!
Alumni know that stuff happens with emails. I’m sure it won’t be held against you!
RELAX. You’ve explained to the interviewer the reason why you haven’t responded to the initial contact. The interviewer will understand that things like that happens, and it’s no big deal. The interview itself doesn’t have much impact on your admission chances. If you don’t get admitted, it’d be for other reasons than the interview. So, just relax and be yourself during the interview. Be sure to be able to answer, Why Emory, should the question arise. In my 5 years as an interviewer (for another college), not a single person was able to answer the Why question, incredible as it sounds. The Why question probes into the applicant’s “fitness” as well as the “demonstrated interest” for the university.
The “why Emory” question is definitely something I want to prepare, I’ve had other college interviews but I was interviewed by a current student, like at Brandeis, and the question never really came up. That question is definitely going to be on my radar. Thank you TiggerDad and momofsenior1!
