Have I screwed myself over?

My GPA is a 3.0 right now. I’m not even in high school yet. (And before you say it doesn’t matter because it’s not on my record, it is, It does matter. The colleges may not care about middle school but my class rank does.) I got a C in Honors Algebra last year and I’m probably going to get around a B in geometry this year. It’s so hard to raise GPAs and I feel like I’ve managed to hurt myself while trying to get ahead.

I don’t think you have. Colleges like to see an upward trend anyway, and the fact that you’ve taken two high school math classes before even going to high school definitely shows something.
Having also struggled in geometry, the best advice I can give you would be to always ask for help when you need it. This could be as simple as asking for clarification about a theorem or concept after class if you weren’t totally sure about it. Personally I found that those five extra minutes I spent with the teacher made all the difference.

@xcgal17 I’m just worried about how not having a good foundation in Alg1 will effect me in Alg2

True, not having a solid foundation in Algebra I could make Algebra II harder… but on the other hand, many Algebra I concepts are covered in geometry, so you’ll be able to go over them again and hopefully get a better understanding. Is an Algebra I summer class an option for you? (At our school you can take self-paced online classes during the summer & I’ve heard they’re really helpful.)

I know you said not to say it, but IT DOESN’T MATTER BECAUSE COLLEGES DON’T CARE ABOUT JUNIOR HIGH.

If you go to some kind of school where they calculate junior high grades in your class rank, well, that will affect things somewhat, but if you try hard and get good grades you should be fine.

B is better than C, so you already have an upward trend. And honestly, a lot of algebra II is review of algebra I, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

@NavalTradition Yeah, they calc. middle school grades into class rank. And even though colleges don’t care, it’s still dragging me down a little bit. I’m currently stressing over the fact that I don’t feel like I try hard enough and I’ll never live up to my dad’s expectations. Also, thanks for letting me know about alg2 being some alg1 review
