Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Carnegie Mellon, Case Western, Vanderbilt. Possibly University of Michigan though that is probably more of a match. Maybe University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Try to get one or two leadership positions for senior year, though I'm sure being in student council is looked upon positively as a leadership thing, you might want to be an officer in something.

I visited JHU last summer and liked it a lot. Depressed that their SAT average went up almost 50 pts...
I'm also pondering over whether to do early decision or not... i have a legacy to Penn and legacies are looked VERY highly upon, but only during early decision.. but its not my top pick, well not by far at least... but i don't want to be rejected by all of these schools either... :-/

Male or female?? With those kind of stats, Wellesley, Smith, and Mt Holyoke are safeties or matches for women, due to the shallower application pool.

I just noted the OP name, I guess Josh wouldn't qualify :)

You are an outstanding applicant at any school, however, looking over some of the "rejected posts" from early April you are absolutely correct to come up with a list of sure bets. Even top applicants can miss out with so many qualified kids in the mix. Also, some so- called Safety schools offer special programs for Scholars or Honors Programs and merit scholarships too. So add a few of those to your list.

Just to add another possibility:
Boston College has an honors program and lots of sports and would at least be a match. It doesn't have engineering, but it does have pre-med

lol i wasn't going to apply to vanderbilt... i will probably apply to a lot of schools, i just have not found a school that i would be happy at.. that i consider to be a "safety"

CWRU EA, Michigan, Wisconsin are 3 schools you have a better then 50% (much higher) shot at in which you will find out early in the year wether you're in. I am highly confident you will go 3/3. Apply early.

Remember that at many so called safety or sure bet schools there are smaller Honors or Scholars programs that can be extremely competetive and offer lots of attention, interesting experiences, and internships/research opportunities.
