<p>I just finished my first year at UCSD with a good last quarter. I am a Sixth student, but yI know some answers about other colleges as well. So ask away.</p>
<p>I have met so many people through this site. Orientation was a blast, it's where you meet new people, and start to form your groups to hang out with (and they will change, you start hanging out with other people from your building and what not).</p>
<p>Ask any question and i will try to answer them, and if I can't maybe someone else will.</p>
<p>Orientation is mostly just to get to know the campus a bit better, learn more about the campus and meet other people. It has a ton of ice breakers and other information about preparing for your first year and what not.</p>
<p>I was hoping that Orientation would help us learn about the various classes and help us decide which classes to pick, but the Sixth orientation isn’t until September, after we pick our classes. I’m also a bit bummed to learn that we won’t get to meet with an advisor in person, only via email. So, I’m just curious as to how most new freshmen decide on classes to take. Do we just stick with GE’s for the first year?</p>
<p>check out the finish-in-four plan given by your college for your major. as long as you’re not wasting time taking classes you don’t need to take, it’s pretty hard to mess up the process.</p>
<p>What should we bring? Will the orientation dorms have sheets and pillows and all that, or should we bring that? Also, do we room with other people at orientation or do we get our own rooms?</p>
<p>You may have time after the program to visit the beach, but they pack the days pretty tightly with activities. Or you could go at night I guess but that might be sketch since it’s kind of hard to get to and you have to walk down a cliff.</p>
<p>The dorms will provide sheets and pillows for you, and I THINK towels but I’m not positive. You will likely room with other people at orientation but some people get placed in a single. It was interesting to try out a triple for a night, that’s for sure…</p>
<p>I was going to sign up for the June orientation with all my friends, but I was late they filled up so I had to sign up for the September one. Are the June and September orientations basically the same? I keep hearing it’s better to go to the one in June, but I can’t!</p>
<p>Do you get to eat with people from other colleges? I know a bunch of people going to the same orientation days as me, but they’re all in different colleges.</p>

I wouldn’t worry about it. You’ll be fine in September. Orientation is just 1 day out of the entire school year. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it one way or another. :)</p>

<p>What time of day is orientation usually over? I’m trying to decide whether to buy a ticket to the 12:30 pm or 4:30 pm train back home. Also, if I’m taking the 101 from Solana Beach, what bus station should I get off at to get to ERC?</p>
<p>Okay, so that means I have to leave the Orientation program at around 2:40ish to catch the 3 pm bus. Do you think they’ll be mad? The ERC website says it ends at 5, but the 4:30 train is the latest one I can catch to get home. Otherwise I’ll get home at maybe 1 AM and no one will be able to pick me up.</p>
<p>Don’t worry about leaving early, it’s not like people will be standing guard forcing you to stay - just make sure you tell your OL that you’re leaving early.</p>
<p>i had my orientation yesterday and my OLs said that if you leave orientation early, they make you come back another day. idk if they were just trying to get those that were tired to stay or not though.
and my orientation ended at 5:30pm. like…almost exactly. im in marshall…idk if that means any difference though.</p>
<p>they can’t physically drag you back. and you can’t “fail” orientation. there will always be one or two people who are traveling for the summer/working abroad and will never make it. obviously they don’t want everyone to take this route, so they try to promote orientation (and rake in some funds).</p>
<p>one of the things you’ll learn soon is that there’s almost a way out of anything college-bureaucracy-related. if i finished all the <em>necessary</em> orientation activities and just felt like being antisocial afterward, it’s my choice. and i’d tell the OL to s t f u.</p>
