Have questions? Ask an Andover Freshmen!!

I don’t think it was anything embarrassing. He asked me a question, and I said, “Wow I did not come prepared for that question.” He laughed loudly and took it as a nice way of me saying I don’t know for the moment.

Thank you all for the insight on the late postage, it’s all sorted out now. I am also unsure about my interview, everyone else around me was interviewed for forty five minutes or hour, but I was only interviewed for about 20 minutes. Also, when my mum was interviewed, they only asked her If she had any questions. I hope I made a good impression, but it’s always hard to tell what the interviewer is thinking.

hey guys! thank god i found this thread! ive been debating about going to andover and i so badly want to! every part of me wants to go and i feel that andover is the most perfect place for me to spend my high school career there. just wondering how has the application process gone for you guys? i havent applied and i know the deadline has already passed. and for previous students, did you guys get financial aid? if so, how much? my parents are willing to send me to andover, but the price is a bit hefty. if i were to go, id need the get a grant of some sort to cover if possible all of the tuition. should i still apply?

shinelikemystar- YES! still apply! I just talked with the director of admissions who said they are still accepting applicants up to February 1st, so if you can send your application by then, you should be good! You have not because you apply not! :)

No, I meant that I’m very interested in the music department and if I should contact them about my interests. I heard a lot of people say that they’ve done that, and I was wondering if that could increase my chances of getting accepted. Srry if I wasn’t clear :frowning:
I’m not sure if that’ll just make the music department teacher annoyed, though…and it might be a little too late cuz I already sent in my application…Sorry and Thanx:’)

LiveForMusic:

If that’s the case, then YES CONTACT THEM!!! send a cd of one of you’re pieces and talk to the director. Mr. Orent is a very nice man, and he would be happy to listen. Usually, faculty write recs for prospectives so it wouldn’t hurt!

ShinkLikeMyStar: Welcome to cc! I’m glad the thread is helping: that’s why I made it :D!I started applying January first for two schools, so I rushed A LOT and handed in many things late (recommendations and ssat). My hook would probably be swimming and being a twin. I had pretty good grades and was in the most advanced classes at my previous school. I was musically active, and maintained a very good work ethic. I honestly don’t know how I got in, but I did, and this school has really changed my life. I’ve been taught to think and work in ways I’ve never thought I could. THis place really is lifechanging and I’m glad I got accepted.

Hey swimdude006! BTW – thanks for the awesomely helpful thread again!

…I want to send the CD/audio recording things… but…
It’s already the end of January. Tomorrow being the first day of February… should I still bother or do you think I should just leave it?

Thank you swindude006! I think I’m applying and taking the SSAT except I dont know what I’m getting myself into. I haven’t studied at all. Do you think I’ll be okay? And I’m academically a good student and am active in a couple groups and clubs. I also am apart of my schools tennis team and dance team although I am absolutely terrible at tennis. Since I am no Olympic athlete of any sort, do you think I have a chance? Also what about student aid? Is it too late? I’m starting to talk myself out of going to Andover and I don’t know why. Is it worth it? Did you get financial aid? Did you reapply for next year already?

Please answer the financial aid questions especially, and if anybody could put in some input it would be greatly appreciated. Hope to be a future Andover student! (:

@swimdude
Thank you so much! XD
That really helped me decide! Should I contact him by email?
I sent a cd of my pieces to the AO but should I also email the video/s to him? If yes, then do you think it’ll be okay for me to send a video of me playing the violin and a audio of my original song recording? Sorry for asking so many questions… And also, I really don’t know what I should say…
Thank you soooo much!

Also what do you love most about Andover? I also had another question but I forgot what

shinelikemystar: I talked to FA office and they told me that I could only get scholarship if my FA situation changed, so I would have to wait till my lil bro comes (if he gets in). And yes, I think you’ll be ok. As long as you have a passion for somethign, you emphasize on it, and you have stellar grades, you should be fine. PA is very generous with FA so I would think that they would give it if you really need some. And NO it’s not too late. I applied really late, and still got accepted so there is hope!! this school is worth every effort. It has changed me completely. And my favorite aspect of this school is the faculty’s understanding of each student, and how they are caring towards the success of each individual. At my old school, teachers were there for the money. Here, they are here for the benifit of the student, so it is really different.

LiveForMusic: contact him through email saying your interest in the program, but don’t send the videos. He’ll already get them by the time you send your email/be expecting them.

Myshkaful: YES SEND THEM NOW!! it is not too late for you to send them in! even if it’s after the deadline, for anything in general, just send them so they know of your progress.

Hope this helps!

So your parents paid for the full tuition? If I get accepted and the scholarship is not enough, am I allowed to ask for more?

Sorry to interrupt, but…

Reason #546947363 why Andover is awesome:

HEAD OF SCHOOL DAY TOMORROW!!

Two three-day weekends in a row! Yes.

Heres a general question for all of you, do you think a lot of people take their ssat’s in February? I’m taking mine this Saturday but have not registered yet because I’m scared my location won’t have enough booklets for me and then i would have wasted my time and my money. Any thoughts?

ShineLikeAStar: yes, now i pay full tuition, but am helped by some family friends (both my brother and i go here). And you probs won’t need to ask for more fa. The AOs inow what you need for your financial stability so they will give you a pretty good amount.

Cassat: AMEN to that :D

Shinkelikemystar: i took mine in february and got a spot. It’s no garunter that you’ll gt a spot but if you haven’t taken it yet then you should deffinitely try

Does Andover have any Saturday classes, ever? What about sports games on Saturdays?

Also, can you tell me how Andover differs from Exeter (aside from Harkness table used in every class at Exeter). I heard Andover is more intense socially and it has more cliques than Exeter- what are your thoughts?

Are you worried about college? I know Andover has amazing college counseling, but with all the competition… well, good luck to you. I’m already worrying about college.

Thank you SO much! <3
So do I just say that I am applying to Andover and am very interested in the musics department? I don’t want to directly ask for a recommendation because it might be too straightforward and rude…

And why does everyone mention the drug incident? It’s not the school’s fault that the kids decided to ruin their lives.
