Yeah the main thing I was worried about was fitting in coming so late and being stressed because junior years already tough on it’s own no matter where you are.

What is up with your basketball team?

shaggy007: From what I’ve heard, the basketball team is pretty good this year. I don’t know all of the details (haven’t played a game yet) but i could pm you when I see some of their games and tell you their results.

bumpppppppp

What schools did you look at and how did you choose Andover?

@helloel: I looked into Exeter, a day school near where I lived, and a small boarding school somewhat near where I lived. I chose Andover because it had better academic opportunities than the schools near my house and gave me more FA than Exeter did.

@823491: You amuse me.

what is the average ssat total score for andover?

^^It’s 93rd percentile. But, at Andover, are there secret societies (to your knowledge). It sounds so cool and, well, yess, a little Harry Potter DA-ish.

Yeah, there are secret societies. I’m pretty sure they’re nowhere near the DA; all they’ve done so far is vandalize buildings and put out candy/cookies/cupcakes.

How easy or hard would it be for a quiet, nonathletic day student transferring from another school to make friends? Also, how many hours do conscientious students typically have available for extracurricular pursuits (sports, clubs, volunteering, etc.) on weekdays and weekends? Finally, I know the SSAT is preferred, but would submitting ISEE scores be a significant negative?

@823491: Yeah, there probably is. Try harder next time; this question wasn’t as amusing as the previous one.

@Planner: Friends depend entirely on how you act and how many friendly people are in your grade. There is no scale on how hard it is to make friends. As long as you talk with other day students/people in your classes and the people in your grade aren’t complete jerks, you’ll be fine.
Depends on your level of conscientiousness and the classes you take. I’d say you’ve got maybe eight hours total in a week if you’re a good student without taking really high level classes.
I don’t think sending in an ISEE instead of an SSAT will significantly impact the decision result.

How is your drama (play) program?

sandol1010: Andover’s drama program is VERY good. We do a musical every other year. The musical this year was profound. Other than that, there are drama labs every friday, which are very entertaining, and student run. I don’t know too much about the drama program, but i’m sure you could look through the directory and look for the director of the drama program

823491: Andover not a sink or swim school. the teachers will go out of their way to help a student that is in dire need of help. They will offer help, just the student has to accept it. There is a lot of stress because of workload, but there really isn’t competition. I honestly don’t know the percentage of people who go to counciling, but many just go there to vent (just like how guys vent their problems to girls lol) or get free hot chocolate at Grahm house :D. And what do you mean by class rank? in academics, I was in the most advanced classes. Here, I’m at a “second level advanced”.

Hope this helps

im applying to andover! i’m very social and i love parties and stuff but im good academically too! one of my friends from another boarding school said that at andover the people dont really have alot of fun and alot of the students are not exactly “social” is this info correct or no?!!

82391: honestly, we’re just trying to help prospective students here, not debate whether PA is a good school or not. These people on this thread probably have done their research, and have a good idea of what each school has to offer. And it’s just applications, they don’t need to worry about choosing until April, so please stop being a ■■■■■ on this thread. It would really be helpful to the rest of us here.

prepschoolxo: Andover is a VERY social place if you want it to be. There are dances every weekend, and a constant flow of activities. People often use the common rooms and rooms to hang out over the weekend. We also go downtown to hang out a lot, and occasionally go to boston for a day trip (need a day excuse for that though). During the week though, most are studying and working hard, so there isn’t that much time for socializing outside of sports and the classroom.

Is it bad if I have an offcampus interview for Andover? All the slots are full… I heard someone say if u have an offcampus interview, it doesn’t do anything at all… like the admissions don’t even look at it?

awks… i didn’t see this thread before I made my own. whoops! well hey swimdude006! randomly jumping in here, but Binghulu262, I did an off-campus interview, and I got in! I know others who did as well. I think the majority visited Andover, but I don’t think it hurts your chances if you have a great interview. The admissions office definitely look at it! There is a designated admissions officer who speaks to the alumni that interviewed you to get the details from them while they look at your application. Good luck!

lol tinkrgirl not a problem!

Binghulu262: I did both an off and on campus interview and they are both relatively the same. I happened to get an off campus interview by luck because it was the last day and there was a HUGE snowstorm that day (first day in a century they canceled school!). So don’t worry, you are in the same pool as everyone else :D

bumpppppppppppppppppp

Are there tryouts for sports once you get on campus?
