Here's a list of the schools I've applied to (I've even put the decision dates next to them for your viewing convenience!)

1) Boston University (Late March, early April...kinda vague for my liking, but what do you expect :/?)
2) Washington University in St. Louis (April 1)
3) Boston College (March 25)
4) University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (I cannot find this for the life of me! Edit someone?)
5) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (March 20)
6) Florida State (March 17)
7) Purdue University (April 10...ughhhh so late, but then again that's pretty good for the app deadline being an insane MARCH 1!)

I've ordered them by interest, but if I got into any of these schools, I would be over the moon!

Personally, my top schools are these because of the communications program they offer (Well, mainly, #5 and up). BU, Umich, and WashU have some of the best in the country. Anyone applying to these schools? Why? Have you visited them? I haven't had the time nor funding to visit, so what's it like?! Oh, and anyone admitted on early decision?

just curious, how do you figure that Wash U even has a communications program? has something changed since 2008? I remember that they had some sort of journalism and film studies but that’s it??

I wasn’t aware that WashU had a communications program, but I didn’t really look.

I applied to Boston University (withdrew my application) because it was a safety that matched my desires: urban, vaguely challenging, good financial aid (in the form of merit, there).

On the other hand, WashU fit my needs, but when I visited it blew me away. I was flown out there for Diversity Weekend. It is literally everything I want in a college and more. It is my only remaining application, given Stanford’s result.

I basically googled, at the beginning of my college search, the top communications schools in the country. WashU was between 4-7 (there were 15) and that’s where I even got the idea to apply (while also remembering someone’s suggestion). I didn’t know it had one either, but apparently it does and it’s one of the best.

WashU has great aid, I’ve heard. Boston College also is incredible at accomodating it’s less fortunate students. Realized that first hand with one of the guys helping me there; very hands on and tells you step by step what you need to do to help yourself, and help them help you. Great school. Hopefully it’s one of the ones that accepts me. BU also is great with merit aid, but I missed the deadline for the scholarships. Will they offer money upon acceptance? Who knows - I’m hoping though since it’s one of my top. But back to WashU - I’ve only heard amazing things about it, so I’m definitely crossing my fingers hoping that everything will work out with them accepting me.

would be very curious to see that link…Any chance that it said University of Washington-Seattle?..please post if you still have that; i have a HS junior who would really like to see this…

D has 2 of the 7; she is currently thinking chemistry/pre-med, but has recently considered dance/pre-med based on advise from a physician (she will stand out from all the other chemistry and biology majors which dominate the pre-med candidates)

UNC-CH - (march 20) in state and parents preference based on in-state tuition and ranking

FSU - (march 17) double major chemistry and dance; strong dance team; climate

Others:

Wake Forest - (april 1) interest to major chemistry; loves campus;

UW-Madison - accepted; interest to double major chemistry and dance

NYU - accepted LSP; rejected CAS; loves NYC and the locations for studying abroad

Stanford (april 1) - dream school, but far reach; hoping Art Supplement and resume will help her stand out

Harvard (arpil 1) - applied because of mailings she received; again far reach, hoping her art supplement will help her stand out; not sure of her real interest, she really only applied because she received several marketing mailings and e-mails.

Her top choice has been Wake Forest. However, she has recently moved UW-Madison into 1st choice. She was excited about receiving the acceptance within 2 weeks of applying and has had several conversations with the dance department.

and i can’t find the other one, but i literally saw it yesterday also. i will repost with it when i find time to search which site had it on the ranking.

WUSTL has announced its merit aid finalists this week. You should know if you are in that very select group. It is “great aid” but extremely, extremely competitive with 20 odd thousand very qualified applicants and many of them try to get the scholarships. Financial aid seems to meet estimated need, but that may not really be enough. WUSTL is a reach for every applicant and a very expensive school so don’t put all your hopes there.

Why didn’t you apply to University of Missouri in Columbia? Is it too late? Great program and reasonable cost.

kerissak - just want to respond to your question on Univ. Michigan - they do more of a rolling process that a specific date. Last year, my son applied in late December and rcvd his acceptance around March 10th. He liked Michigan specifically for the sports mgmt program and the presence of sports in general. Was not crazy about the large campus, needing to take shuttle buses from north campus to main campus, the lack of housing beyond freshman year and the weather. That being said, I think we see more people with Michigan sweatshirst and car stickers than any other college. Amazing alumni network - I think I have read that Michigan has the largest number of living alumni. Great networking possibilities for internships and jobs.

As for Purdue…DS submitted his application Oct 30 and was accepted Dec 11. By getting all his apps in early, he heard from 7 of his 9 schools before Xmas.

I applied to BU because I love Boston. I applied to Wash U because I just thought it was an interesting place that was solid academically. I applied to UMichigan because it is strong in nearly every academic subject. I’ve gotten into the honors program at UMichigan, but haven’t heard back from BU or Wash U yet.
