So, what are you guys planning to take?

I've changed it a few times, but right now my schedule is

LATIN 193: Intensive First Year 4cr
GERMAN 102: Second Semester 4cr
ENGLISH 370: Honors Medieval and Renaissance Lit 3cr
PHIL 296: Honors Intro to Logic 3cr
PHIL 297: Honors Intro to Philosophy 3cr
GEOSCI 103: Dinosaurs and Other Failures 1cr

No rush. I replaced most of my courses the last week of august (you can add or remove courses easily online). Only benefit to knowing ASAP is that you can get a spot in a class before they fill up. I had to keep an eye on openings for a few weeks before I could get a spot in one of the courses I wanted. Anyways, I'd recommend checking out the course guides and ratemyprofessors.com

Anyone want to name some good teachers from experience?

Hmmm....
-for Comm 101/102 - Bushman
-for a seminar, take Phil 196 "University of Michigan: A Moral Institution?" with Gary Krenz, one of the best classes/teachers I have ever had
-for a fun class, take Musicology 121 with Garrett
-for a fun/easy science class take Physics 106
-for Stats 350 you MUST have Gunderson
-for Econ 101, it's a tossup, but most of my friends liked Gerson
-for Calc and English, you're gonna have a GSI, so just pray you get a good one.

Hope I helped.

Oh I have.

These are the options in addition to the pre reqs.

Stats 350.
Comm 101
Frecnh 101/ 102
Pol Sci 101

List of the classes I'm considering:

ASIANLAN 104
MATH 115/116
ECON 101/102
ENG 124
STATS 100/350
HISTORY 289
CLARCH 221
PHIL 155/181/196/201/202
ANTHRCUL 101
POLSCI 101
PSYCH 120/121
SOC 100
MATH 175

Any opinions regarding retaking classes that you have AP credit for would be great (specifically, AP Macro/Micro Econ, AP Calc AB). And any opinions about the classes I listed above would be great too :)

I have 2 more question:

We only need to know class we want to take for the Fall term, right? We are only planning the fall term, not for the whole year....is that correct?

Should we take 1 class from each of our distributions (HU, SS, NS)? I made a list of the classes that I liked and they all mostly came from the SS distribution....

Yes that's correct, you only have to figure out what classes you're taking for the fall. Winter registration isn't until november/december.

Also, most of the classes you take will fall within a distribution, so don't really worry about that.

Thank you.

Gomez....I was also think about taking stats 350 and comm 101

I suggest comm 102 instead of 101, it's much more interesting and very easy. (unless you're thinking of majoring in comm, then you need both). And def. take stats 350 with gunderson.

thanks!

Do you know any other strong classes that would be good for a pre-business student?

Econ 398 hands down. Interesting and easy.

As far as retaking classes you have AP credit for: don't do it. Even if it's been a year or two since you've taken the class, it's the same for people who take the class at Michigan first semester freshmen year then don't do the next class requiring it until junior year. You're not expected to remember everything (in some cases, even anything) from the prerequisite course, just to have some kind of familiarity with it so if it gets brought up then you'll at least be familiar with it and at that point probably remember it. In the case of Econ, 101/102 are only advisory prerequisites for the 400 level classes, which means they really aren't that necessary. As far as calc, you won't get anything out of taking it again except maybe a bad grade because the class is made very hard to get a spread in scores.

Is Communication Studies considered an easy class:S????

They look at courseload when considering an applicant to Ross so wouldn't want to mess that up.

These are the classes I'm thinking about...

1.Great Books
2.The art of film
3. Acting
4. Medicine and the Media
5. Intro to Political Theory or Introduction to Comparative Politics

Anyone know anything about them or have any advice? :)

English 125 College Writing

CHEM 130 Gen Chem

ASIAN 260 Intro to Chinese Civ.

ECON 102 Principles Econ II

aren't we supposed to be talk with a counselor at orientation before determining our course schedules?

Engineering 100

Physics 140/141

Philosophy 196

Math 115, 116, or 117 - I have no idea how well I did on the BC calc test, so I'll be taking one of these three. I thought I did bad on it, but from what I've heard everyone else thought it was tough as well, so I'm shooting for a 4 and maybe I'll get to start in calc 2

You are supposed to wait to register, but they suggest you have some courses picked out that you've looked at (and maybe even backpack them). Also, some of us here have already been to orientation, and some are current UM students.
