What about when people are just joking around and say "I love you."

I mean, it's kind of flattering when it happens, but doesn't it ruin the meaning. It's like, should you think that member of the opposite sex seriously subconsciously means something once in a while by saying it, or is it just a load of crap that you wish you could feel good about?

That's what I figured. So that's why I hate it when someone I fancy the slightest bit says it. Because then I feel like, oh well that would be nice, but you don't mean it.

I was just thinking, I wouldn't say it to someone I didn't like. I've used the phrase once in a while. It basically means, "You're cool and we're friends." Not, "I'm madly in love with you, let's get it on!"

Love to me is forgiveness, its loyalty, patience, and lust.

I've been in a relationship for over a year, and I think its after that first year that one can actually say whether s/he is truly in love or not. because the first year is just two people getting to know eachother and adjusting their lives to one another. But love is so unpredictable. My aunt met her husband at 13 and a month later married him. They've been together for 50 years. Crazy ****.

Anyone can fall in love, its staying in love thats tricky.

Hmm, well I've been with my boyfriend for about a year and a half and I do believe that I am in love with him. However, I don't think that how long you've been together can necessarily dictate if you are in love.
But I do agree that the word love is overused now and loses its meaning if it's said too many times, especially if it's not meant. My boyfriend and I don't say it to each other that much, but when we do, it just makes it even more special.

I think I was in love once. She was Brazilian, or Chinese, or something weird. I met her in the bathroom of a K-Mart and we made out for hours. Then we parted ways, never to see each other again.

No.
I don't really believe teen love, most people judgements are clouded by their hormones.
Of course this doesn't apply to everybody, but it does to a lot fo people.
Teens today don't realize the difference between infatuation and love...
