Have you ever changed your major?

If so, what did you change it to? And what was it in the first place?

Also, what caused you to change your major?

:)

I changed from a Bachelor of Music in Church Music to a Bachelor of Arts in Music (Church Music Option). I didn’t have the time to fulfill the requirements and complete a psychology minor as well.

Well I’m only in high school xD but I already changed about eight times.
Why? because I realized that getting a job with that major is NIL chance.

I switched from chemical engineering to chemistry midway through sophomore year.

I switched from Animal Science to East Asian Studies. I decided to switch because I wasn’t doing well in math or science, and I didn’t want to continue a major where I suck in two core subjects and be unhappy, so I switched to a major that’s easier for me to handle. I’m more of a Humanities person than a Math/Science person, anyway.

Switched my 2nd major from writing to Psychology because psych is more marketable,

i switched from economics to poli sci to film and media (with a minor in something serious like accounting)
i love econ but one bad teacher ruined the way i thought about it. poli sci major is dumb even though i also love poli sci. and film and media is what i have really always wanted to do. If Im gonna have a career, i want to love what i do

I’m pretty sure most people change their major at some point.

^It seems to be about 50% change their major at least once, but many more do not even have an idea of a major when they begin college.

personally no, but people change it all the time

I have a feeling I will change my major multiple times within the engineering school.

I started out doing Nursing, but switched to Aerospace Engineering because it’s something I had always wanted to be. Besides, I’m not much of a people person.

No I never changed my major. Changing major = not graduating in 4 years. Hell to the freaking to the no.

No, but at one point I wanted to double major and changed the double major to a minor. I don’t think I officially ever had the double major though so it didn’t matter. I’ve changed what I wanted to minor in a million times, but I finally decided on the one I have now. It’s completely different from what I originally thought it would be!

Yes, I’ve changed majors AND transferred schools twice.

First I went to an expensive private school to study occupational therapy. I had an epiphany Spring semester that I hated my major, and did a late transfer application to a commutable public school because I got it in my head to study engineering.

I did well enough at first, but again second semester I realized I really didn’t like what I was doing. In addition, I became depressed because I disliked my major, loathed commuting to school and literally made no friends. So in the time that I was lethargic on the couch or in counseling, I did a lot of soul searching as to the people who really made a difference in my life, as well as my interests and strengths. When I did that, I realized that I really wanted to become a school counselor, so I did another late transfer to a less prestigious school where I had a more established social base and started studying psychology.

I was a little worried that I would encounter the same Spring panic again, but it didn’t even come close to happening. I LOVE both my school and my major and I am flourishing more than I ever have in my life. Comparing where I was a year ago to where I am today is just such an astonishing contrast.

And the best part of it all is that I am still going to graduate on time with research, TA experience, and possibly a math minor to top it off thanks to my time spent studying engineering. Moral of the story: People change their minds, life goes on, and do what makes you happy.
