I decided not to take AP calc bc but I took ab instead. I wanted to see how i was at calc and i figured i could always selfstudy the rest by myself if i was understanding everything

Hm, I'm going to add that at my school you're not allowed to take more than two AP's without permission. Exceptions are usually made for AP Latin (because there isn't a non-AP Latin III) and AP stat (because it's not that difficult).

I dropped an AP class. Over the summer, I did all of the reading and insane essays and had full intention of taking the course. At the time I was playing a sport which required that we leave early(which would mean I would miss the last half of his class) one day every other week for competitions. It was problematic from the start but right after the first marking period, we had a blowout and during class I walked out and went to the principal. He would not allow me to make up any work that I missed when I was being pulled out for games and this included an essay that counted a large portion of my grade. Our school does not have a policy on how teachers are supposed to deal with absences and making up work so he made up his own- not there by choice then no credit. Long story short, the principal agreed that it was dumb and forced the teacher to stop doing it but after I had said numerous terrible(yet true) things about him while we were in a conference, I decided that going back to that class would not be the best thing.

... am I happy with my decision? Yes, but I regret that he still gives student athletes a hard time. Also, he was assigned to "mentor" me for my senior year, and lets just say that he's never contacted me or spoken to me.

my school offers considerably less than most schools- just the basics here. So none freshman year for anybody, only 1 possible sophomore (ap us), up to 5 possible junior year, but that's never been done junior year (ap comp sci, ap euro history, ap calc ab, ap bio, ap chem and ap phsycis. HOwever, it's impossible to take ap chem and ap bio and ap physics, because bio and chem are 2 periods long. So you can only take up to 2 of those three. which is why 5 is the max). Senior yr 6 is the max. becuase you can't skip lunch or have an early period (ap english lit, ap us gov, ap foregin langauge, ap chem, ap bio, ap physics, ap calc ab or bc)

i chose not to take AP Chem.... thank god

haha i'm studying for an ap chem test right now, i need a 105% (he curves the tests 10%) plus a 100 on the final for the a.

celebrian, that's definitely way more APs than my school. My school offers ten total, and four of them were just offered for the first time this year. Also, AP Physics and AP Bio are offered during the same period and AP Chem and AP Statistics are offered during the same period. It's really frustrated. I'll have 5 APs when I graduate, and there really isn't a way I could have scheduled any more in with the messed up times our school offers the classes.

ap chem is ridiculous... it's definitely the hardest class at my school (they actually don't call it ap, b/c they want to cover more than is on the ap curriculum). I'm dying right now. I spend about 10x longer on work for that than all my other classes combined. I detest chem... I just have to remember that if I get at least a 4 on the ap test that I never have to take chem again. I really, really want to drop it, as sr year is definitely supposed to be about slacking off, but that means I'll just have to take it later.

well even though we have more, 3 will be double block next year, so the most possible will be 10. And only 3 or 4 people are advanced enough in math and in all other AP classes to get that far. There are a lot of prerequisites.

I'm not in AP Chem but Gifted Chem is definitely just as hard if not harder...this is the ONLY class that I'm required to type EVERY assignment...no handwritten assignments will be accepted besides test...and there are ALOT of assignments...I'm gonna die,,,

Next year I'll probably take AP Physics B, Psych, Bio, and Lang. I mean our school dosen't put limits on what we want to take, but our GC's reccommend or workload. So there's always the over-acheiving types taking all AP's.

P.S- I heard APUSH was horrible. DEFINITELY not taking it:)

I only took 2 AP's my junior year with one honors. I don't regret taking more, even though I had some issues with classes I had to take in order to get into some AP's because of a mid-year move. But my senior year I am taking 6 (BC, Bio, Econ, Gov, Lit, Music Theory) and am doing very very well in all of them. I see juniors and sophmores struggling in AP Bio while I am getting a very solid A with little or not extra studying. I attribute this to waiting until your Senior Year. By then I had done a lot of work already, found out how to study, and figured out what ways I learned best and the faster. My advice is that if you decide to take an AP take it when you feel you are ready. If you don't want to take it junior year, wait until senior. Besides colleges always like to see that upward trend, rather than your most difficult courses during junior year (not counting ED or EA of course).

Cheers

btw my school doesn't have honors classes in most subjects, honors english for freshman and sophomores and honors science for freshman and honors biology for sophomores...that's it

I have taken every AP offered but regret taking AP Eng Lit instead of Accel. Eng 12 b/c I have learned nothing seriously although Accel does more work so I guess it's a trade off
