Students who bombed in HS and on their SAT’s applying to HYPS anyway, when they’re not a URM. ( 1.5 GPA and a 800 SAT)
Why do you think those students do that? With application fees that many top colleges charge, to apply to several colleges that they definitely have no chance at, it’s a waste of time and money for the student and his/her family.
My opinion: Those students were told by well-meaning parents and close relatives/friends that they had a chance, even when they don’t. So they apply, and then are heartbroken when they recieve several thin envelopes with rejections.
Another Question: How common are such underqualified applications? I was thinking that it may happen more often than I think.
<p>well since harvard accepts the common app, some ppl may think 'why not?'</p>
<p>I think most just want to try it out and see. Most know they have little to no chance. I agree with filmxoxo17 as well.</p>
<p>holy moly 1.5 GPA?</p>
<p>maybe there were REALLY REALLY REALLY .. interesting.. circumstances</p>
<p>otherwise, yeah, just to see
the whole "you'll never know unless you try" mentality</p>
<p>that's why I'm trying. I might not be that low, but I'm a probable reject all the same. I know I'll kick myself in the butt for not at least trying, you know? I don't want to look back and think, what IF I had just tried Yale, what could have been? It's why I'm taking my sat2's even though most places that require them or highly reccomend them I won't get into</p>
