So I just got my essay critiqued by two english teachers and they both gave me two totally different views of my essay. Both were generally positive, however while one suggested some minor changes, the other suggested that I rewrite it somewhat in turn for a "better" essay...though I don't know to what extent it will get better if I choose her method...

So are any of you getting your essays critiqued by your english teachers...and how much of their advice are you planning to use?

I was wondering the same thing about getting other people to read my essays, how should i determine who’s advice to take if I have two respectable people saying opposite things about my essays

That happened to me with a few different teachers. One time, when teacher A said she liked something, and teacher B said she thought it was irrelevant to the rest of the essay, I went back to teacher A and asked her how relevant she really thought it was, and she said that even though she liked it, the essay could do without.

So basically it was a back-and-forth until some sort of consensus was reached. Other times, I just said “they told me opposite things, so screw their opinions, i’ll just do what feels right to me.” In the end, it’s about your voice and what you want to convey to the colleges.

There’s really no right or wrong when it comes to this stuff.

the best way to compare is to have more than just 2 people read your essay. get your friends, family, tutors to read your essay and give you feedback. This way you will have more detail and make better changes.

If you need another opinion, PM me your essay with prompt and i’ll offer you some feedback
