precisely shreya its such an oxymoron....i'm not saying Chinese are the smartest, but chinese and dumb just dont go together

it always intrigues me when threads on CC go completely off topic

ppl, don't insult other races.

^ ......extra

OP, I know loads of Int'ls who pay the full sticker price themselves; it's just that at top universities their number equals that of those who require aid.

i am paying full, but in canada

I don't know how this devolved into a discussion on chinese people but just wanted to mention that china has a large population and a small group of students does not repesent the whole student population. Also from experience and popular knowledge, chinese usually attend the top colleges(Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale e.t.c) in the world despite the fact that their language skills might not be the greatest in the world. I don't know why but Chinese internationals dominate top university admissions with most on scholarships, enough said ( I am Nigerian so obviously not biased towards chinese).

Now for the important question concerning fee-paying students, yes a lot of people pay full everything. Infact a lot of schools like Emory, Vanderbilt, Tufts, CMU, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins e.t.c rarely give financial aid with the majority of students fully supporting themselves. Most of the students, from my school paying full come largely from European countries (Western Europe) and another large group comes from the Middle East with very few being chinese or indians. This is the case at my school and I don't know what happens at other schools so I would not conclude that this is representative of all colleges in the US.

^ yes and i AM chinese =)

problem with us is that we're too smart....so much so that we end up using our smartness to compete and outlast each other

5000 years of incessant in-fighting has resulted in such competitive and defensive mindsets that its almost impossible for us to really reunite as one

lol...this is a really interesting thread. I feel like I'm in Tianya (one of the biggest forums in China)

I wish I can pay full tuition...maybe then I could have gotten into Duke...sigh
But I can completely understand the other point of view, b/c at my high school, a bunch of kids come here just because they can afford it and do horribly at school. Being Chinese does not guarantee a super brain, nor does it label someone as dumb. We're just as diverse in brain power as anyone. ^__^

btw, my family income makes me one of those kids who will probably be on full FA and work my back off to break through that kind of history. ^^
2 full scholarships does help. ^^

Hello everyone and I hope everyone here has enjoyed the company of longbowmen. His ability to contradict himself is truly extraordinary and is second only to his propensity to make reveal his stupidity. Your a case of Chinese and dumb coinciding in a sentence. I'm Chinese but I'm one of few that realizes that for the most part we are a race that has underachieved and are in no way superior to any other race. Your presence on any thread is abhorrent and regrettable. I visit the internet ever so rarely, so I'll make it a point now to visit each of your other posts. Other posters please follow me and enjoy.

^^ I agree with mickydean...the 2 years of national service in Singapore is probably messing with longbowmen's head lol...the officers must have used propaganda to fill his head with ideas of chinese supremacy :D

Oh really??? Dumbs!!! Are you like a racist or something? Do you have any idea how many Chinese students have to give up their dream school and attend a cheaper one even though accepted to the previous just because they can't afford it??? Who gave you the right to say that Chinese students are dumb? We all due respect, but the comment on us being rich and dumb really irritates me

oops...guys(and gals)...this thread is way off topic...
I am a Chinese and I'm proud of being a Chinese, I cannot pay in full but rather asking much aid, but it's already pretty clear that rich Chinese kids are not all dumbs, nor are kids asking for much aid. Some rich Chinese kids studying abroad are not working hard and are not so nice--a sad fact but it is true--however the rest of Chinese kids do work hard and are nice and friendly, regardless of the financial situation of their families. All kinds of people exist, nice and friendly or cruel and harsh, but this is the case with all nations I think, China being absolutely no exception.

I'm sorry that I started the debate on this issue, but with CradleOfFilth already apologized for her casual note, with everyone here agreeing that Chinese are no superior nor inferior to any other race, I assume the debate can stop now? I'm sure CradleOfFilth had no intention to insult Chinese people...so maybe we are just making too much of it?

We are all proud of our own races, and when it comes down to it, we all bleed red blood, don't we? (no offense to anyone) :)

Can we stop making this a racial war?

Yeah, we should stop this fight. Btw

FREE TIBET !!!

i know alot of people who can afford to pay full tuition for 2 people...unfortunately..they set their eyes on uk:(

i on the other hand cannot afford to pay full tuition...thats why im considering canada first(wich btw...costs alot too)...i did get 50% aid from mt.holyoke..so i mite end up there...sigh, im confusion personified:(

i dont wanna start a fight here, but Tibet needs to be freed....from the clutches of that moronic monk

DOWN WITH DALAI LAMA!!

love how this is devolving into a political discussion.....yuck

much more important stuff at stake, fellows....your friggin' college careers

OK, question here is... who ISNT paying in full, and why?

RuolinFan did you really need to ask that question...or were you specifically asking for people to answer with their situations. I don't pay full because I can't. My family's annual income is half the amount of the total cost of attending my college. I'm sure others can attest to this too.
