Have you taken a tour of FSU?

Hi, S and me(mom) are going on a tour at FSU and would like to hear your take on the tours given. Have you gone? What did you like or dislike? Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Like every college tour they show you the pretty parts and don’t show you the rundown areas of campus.
They tell you from any part of campus you can get to where you need to in 15 minutes…which is a lie bc it used to take me 20 or so minutes to get from Rogers to WJB and I walk fast.
I recommend taking the tour but also venturing out to see the other parts of campus they don’t show you.
Also buses are never on time and if they tell you they are they lie. They also try to scare you off about parking.
If you drive: Parking isn’t as difficult as they claim. Traditions can be tough, but the other garages are a piece of cake except Call St and Woodward can been tough between certain hours but not impossible.

Thanks for your help. We do have time and will look around on our own. Where exactly do they meet for the tour? I’m hoping to see a dorm room or classroom if possible.

When I attended Preview, after the campus tour, I went specifically to the department for my major, and after talking to someone, I got a tour of the entire department.

It might not be possible for your son’s major, but it was easily the highlight of Preview. I got to meet a number of people within the department, and got to see where exactly I’d be learning. Then of course, I changed my major and most of that went out the building, but it was still great.

Now, if you’re going for a private (or private-ish) tour, that could be a lot different. I went of course when they were expecting people, so that was way different.

Depending on his major(s) his classes will be scattered. Some of my ARH classes meet at WJB while some meet at FAB, some of my History classes don’t usually even meet where the History department is located. Some classes look nicer than others, the ones in WJB are so much more comfortable and pleasant than Bellamy or HCB.
So if you all want to see a classroom I’d just walk around and take a peek in all the buildings you have time to see…if he knows or has an idea where most of his classes will be held in.
I agree with Pasbal it is a great idea for him to go to his department for his major and get a tour, as he will be there often and it would be good for his Advisors to get to know him.
I’m not sure about dorm rooms though, you would have to do that as apart of the tour bc they do not let anyone who does not have keycard access to look around for obvious reasons. I was at Ragans last Summer and my roommates and I wanted to tour Traditions and they refused (which we expected, but thought we could convince the RA), fortunatly there were some residents walking in willing to show us their rooms so we just got lucky.

Once your done with the walking tour go by the stadium and take some of the bus routes on and off campus to see what it’s like living there. You can also go a block away from campus to visit the Capital or Supreme Court of Florida just to see that the city does have some non-college personalities. Ask about your department (major) and where it’s located. Try to go to it if you can so that you get to know the advisors and ask questions.

Just have fun and ask questions
