Have you taken/heard about these science classes? (freshman schedule)

Does anyone have information/opinions about the following lab sciences:

BIO 121 (General Bio)

CHEM 106 (General Chem Lecture and Lab)

AST101 (Our Corner of the Universe)

My daughter is working on her schedule and is thinking of taking one of these.
She will be a Newhouse freshman.

THANKS!

BIO 121 involves a lot of memorization. There are 2 exams and 1 final. What I hate about the exams is that it covered around 10 chapters which is a lot of material. You can earn extra credit points by participating in clicker questions during class. I took CHE 109 instead of CHE 106 but its the same except that CHE 109 is honors/majors. If your daughter decides to take Chemistry. I suggest taking it with Professor Freedman. Even though her lectures are boring, her class is pretty easy. She provides review sheets before exams which were helpful to prepare for the exams.

Good luck :)

How many hours per week are the labs for these classes?

Do you spend a lot of time doing write up after the lab classes?

CHE 106 I agree. Take Freedman, I had Boyden for CHE 116 ( the second half of the chemistry sequence). Horrific.

BIO 121 yeahh it was like 12 chapters and like 60 questions. btw… pray you get a real good TA (I HAD WEI…HE WAS GREAT!!)

Honestly, it depends on your study ethic I personally went over the notes for 30-45 minutes a day and I reviewed more on the weekend.

Labs are 2 hours and 50 minutes a week. Sometimes if you finish early, you’re allowed to leave. For BIO 121 labs, there are pre-labs… around 2-4 questions, lab quizzes before lab class starts on the previous lab, and no write ups after the class. Not sure about CHE 106 lab.
