But this teacher was an elementary school teacher. She was a junior. What kind of power did he have over her?

^ Irrelevant. It’s the precedent that is set. You can’t have different standards. A teacher is a teacher is a teacher. And, again, they could have waited until she graduated.

Btw, I apologize in advance for disagreeing with you and thus “condemning” your post.

Romani:
Serious question: What about having sex with your boss? Doesn’t (s)he have power over you as well?

My point was that the act was illegal because she was too young to give consent => she was not responsible for her actions. If she is not responsible, she cannot be punished

There was recently a thread on another college forum where an ambitious student performed a sex act on her professor to get a good grade.

^^ Yes, I think that is wrong although not legally. When the relationship goes sour, the one underneath will be punished in some way (most commonly, the woman).

Anyway, there is a difference between a boss and a teacher. I can’t explain it in words right now since it is nearly 5 AM, but the gist of it is that a teacher has you when you’re very young and haven’t seen much of the outside world. A boss has you when you’re a bit older and more apt to see the BS that is presented by manipulator.

People should have sex with whomever they want, as long as its safe and they have mutual desire with no substances involved. That’s my stance.

And I’m so baked right now that I can’t type or think any longer. I’m out.

I’m glad I brought up this conversation. I love stuff like this. (no sarcasm)

^ No age requirement? What about within families? What about if one of the people is mentally handicapped and cannot provide consent?

I just though of something about fairy_dreams ■■■■■. IIRC, he also claimed to have given her a few drinks. So legally they raped each other!?

“When the relationship goes sour, the one underneath will be punished in some way (most commonly, the woman).”
Double entendres ftw! (Yes, I know, very childish :))

“People should have sex with whomever they want, as long as its safe and they have mutual desire with no substances involved.”
IMO, this is much worse than the present system.

How is it worse?

His whole post sounded like some sort of erotica. “No…I can’t…Please don’t…” :P

It was obviously a ■■■■■, but the double standards were still present.

^^Because an adult could take advantage of a child (doesn’t even have to be a teen).

As to the age of consent convo on the first page: in most states, you aren’t suddenly legal when you’re 18. It’s just that most people are very uninformed about AoC.

As this map shows, there are plenty of areas in the US with an AoCt under 18, (the most common is 16) proving the fallacy of the “facts” on which the first page discussion was based. As this article details, many of them have restrictions that do their best to reflect the fact that no one suddenly becomes an adult.

My girlfriend recently told me about a sub that came in to teach for the day - she’d had him before a year ago or something.

Anyways, he came up to her and flirted with her, asked if she was 18 yet (this is where my protective instincts kicked in full gear), and then when she lied and said she was 17, he hinted that he’d have taken her out to hang out, and then backed off a bit after she told him she was going to be hanging out with me later that day.

I mean I don’t think flirting between teacher and students is absolutely wrong, but there is a certain point that, when crossed, only leads to bad outcomes.

there’s one teacher i know who is the head of the math department and he’s a total flirt - whenever i come and ask him questions about calculus, he helps me for a while then starting talking about his dating life… then a bit sexist jokes… but he’s still fun though

I said “mutual” you know.

It’s not like there aren’t the occasional repercussions for the boss in a case like that. But it depends more on the situation.

Hmmm…it sounds like both parties were majorly at fault. How did the public even find out about the sex? Did they get cyber-caught, or did someone, like, walk in on the occassion or something? :0

As far as I know, nothing even remotely similar has ever happened at my school. The only teacher who isn’t completely old and decaying is (OMG OMG!) the AP Calculus teacher. He’s…er, married, and so far has turned down every girl who has ever walked into his classroom, smitten. :)

^AHAHAHAHAH.

I lol’d.
