Haven't been contacted for an alumni interview yet

Another applicant from my town/high school was contacted for an interview weeks ago, but I haven't been contacted yet. Should I email the admissions office? I checked off the box indicating I would like an alumni interview (I never visited campus). However, Middlebury's site warns that the officers are busy at this time and it isn't worth contacting them early in the interviewing period. How early is too early?

I’d give it another 7-10 days, then contact them.

I might wait a little while, but be aware that the deadline for filing reports for alumni interviews is February 5.

Good point urbanslaughter. I’d contact them if you haven’t heard from an alum by this Friday (1/29). There were several technical glitches with the assignment system this year.

Hmmm, I actually called today because the 2/5 deadline scared me. The guy who answered said that they had over 8000 applications this year so they’re still matching people with their interviewers. He also said that these interviews are completely informational so I shouldn’t worry about them - that seemed to imply that they weren’t evaluative in any way though, so is the interview not considered in the admissions process this year (or at all)?

The interviewer prepares a summary of your interview and sends it to admissions. It gets placed in your file and may be read aloud during deliberations. It’s not supercritical, but if they have two candidates who are very similar and one had a great interview report while the other didn’t, I’d imagine it could have some influence.

I’ve already said this, but son did not manage to score an interview (and yes, he really wanted one), and I even called a friend of mine who IS an alumnus, but you can well understand that following the holidays and the new year, everyone gets really busy in January (unless apparently you’re actually attending Midd and enjoying J-term!). In any event… Son did not have an interview and it did not seem critical to his getting in. Frankly, I think interviews work best for those very much so on the bubble in terms of stats or for those of whom the school might be a huge reach. Obviously Midd’s acceptance rate makes it a reach for the majority, but if your application is strong, it should speak for itself.

So… if a student absolutely is sold on Midd, I think sending in the preapplication as soon as possible would make it far more likely to garner an alumni interview earlier in the process (even if you’re not applying ED). So, for all you juniors reading ahead. Take note.
