Haven't Heard about Scholarship

I thought maybe parents could answer this for me. I applied for a local scholarship for people in my sport. They gave a date that everyone would hear by but I haven't heard anything and it's been long enough for the mail to have come. Should I contact them and ask if they have made a choice? Or should I just figure I didn't get it? It's been 3 weeks since the date they gave.

Popsicle. Go ahead and call. It will settle things in your mind so you can move on. A number of messages sent to me have somehow been lost, so you can ask if the mail was sent out because you have not yet received anything and want to check.

I think that scholarship sponsors should be courteous and send out notices that people DID NOT get a scholarship. (I'm not necessarily talking about the large ones like Walmart, etc.) but reasonably smaller ones.

It's definitely true that you want an answer so you can move on and know either yeah or ney...!

Thanks :-) for the advice!
Now I'm filling out another application and I'm supposed to say why I deserve the scholarship. I HATE THIS! I feel like saying,,,, I don't know why? I haven't found a cure for cancer and never will...I don't have straight A's and 2400 SATs. No one is dying in my family. I don't have to walk to school barefoot in the rain. I just need some money to make it easier on my parents. I don't drink or drug or shop at famcy stores.
This is so frustrating!

You don't have to stretch the truth. You can say you are a hard-working student who gets good grades, and will make the most of your opportunities, which include financial support. If you can say that you've worked for money outside school, you can say that despite having to devote x hours to working, you have been able to maintain a decent grade average.

If this were about house renovation, this would be called "sweat equity." Not pleasant, but potentially rewarding. The best of luck to you. Don't give up!

Got the "you're not good enough letter" today :( I have the feeling that this will be the first of many :(

I know that's a bummer feeling Popsicle, we've all been in the rejected line before...! But hopefully you'll have the opportunity to be on the receiving end for even just one other application and that will make all the work of ALL the applications worth it!

Competition is fierce out there for $$$. You never know exactly what people are looking for. Most of all don't stop trying - you can't have any success with scholarships if you don't take the time to try them!

Popsicle:

Hang in there. We've all suffered disappointment. the worst thing one can do is not to try. If you don't ask, you don't get; if you don't apply, you won't receive. Keep trying. Somebody out there will love you.

popsicle, my D didn't apply for a particular scholarship because it was a lot of work (needed extra recommendations, etc) & she procrastinated too long. A young man we know got it ... and he had much lower stats than she has. So don't despair ... you just never know! Hard work does pay off.
