I applied to Pitt about 5 weeks ago, and I applied to the nursing school of pitt but haven't heard back from the admission office yet. Should I be worried?
Here are my current stats:
SAT- 2140
GPA-3.75
QPA-4.7

Is it really difficult to get into the school of nursing? What do you think are most of the stats of those that get in?

From experience, I would be worried. Check your application status online again. DD just had an “issue” with her application/acceptance. She applied mid October and her online application status was “complete” in early November when Pitt received her hs transcript. She waited and waited, but heard nothing. (This is a pretty high stat kid.) She happened to check her application status the day before winter break because she wanted to know the exact date her application was complete. She had heart failure when she saw that her application was NOT complete and “hs transcript not yet received”! She was basket case! The deadline to submit the transcript said Nov. 16 (1 month or so from date of submission of app). There was a flurry of emails, phone calls and faxes between myself, hs guidance counselor, DD and the Pitt admissions office. Turned out that Pitt had indeed received the transcript. However, when the file went for review for admissions, they only had 2 out of 3 pages of the transcript! So her application went back to incomplete and “hs transcript not yet received”. HOWEVER, DD was not notified of this! We had no idea. There was no reason to check the application status again after it said it was complete. Why would we? ARGH! She discovered it by chance.

Anyway, the admissions office was very helpful and understanding. They said it was an “honest mistake” (not sure if it was the guidance counselor’s or Pitt’s, but definitely NOT DD’s) and to just fax them a new transcript. He assured me that DD would be fully considered for merit scholarships. Her acceptance came in the mail last week. Still waiting on scholarships though.

DD did miss the boat on a chance for guaranteed med school. Not a huge deal. DD is going into bioengineering and it has always been a thought that she may head to med school after the BS. Guaranteed med school is very competitive and they take very few students so chances were slim at best, but it would have been good to have. It’s just a shame that she now has no chance because of someone else’s mistake. Oh well.

Lesson here…check up on your status. Call or email your questions to the admissions office. They are very helpful.

I had a similar problem with my transcript. I asked my guidance counselor how long it would take for them to update the portal about my high school transcript, she said it would take about a week or two. I waited three weeks (by this time it was end of October) and they said they had not received my transcript and that they update the portal every 24 hours! I worked it out with my guidance counselor and she said that there may have been a transaction error (faxed it). She immediately faxed it in again the next day. I called them later on in the day and they said they had received my transcript. A week later, I get an email saying that my Junior GPA and class rank were cut off on the faxed transcript!!! By this point, it was early November, way later than I wanted my transcript to be at Pitt. My guidance counselor sent them an email and faxed in another copy. Finally they had a good copy of the transcript and everything was in.

They reviewed my credentials for quite some time. They got everything by the 2nd week of November and I didn’t hear back until the first week of December. I was growing anxious because a few of my friends heard back within 10 days! I kept emailing one of the board members back and forth and my application status, and he said that it is still under review. After some more time, he was kind enough to spare me anxiety and email me my “unofficial” decision. He didn’t say why it took so long though.

I applied for Computer Science at the School of Arts and Sciences. I guess it took so long because my SAT scores were borderline (520CR 680M 640W)

I wish you the best of luck. Keep sending them emails so they remember you (and know you’re interested :P)

Thank you land64shark and clgchicken. I did email the admission officer, and they told me that my application is complete but they’re still reviewing it They also said that I should get a reply within this month.
