Haven't heard back...

So, I submitted my application and all supplementary materials on September 27th, but I have yet to hear back. Is this a bad sign? I know multiple other applicants who applied later than I did and have already been accepted.

ACT: 31 (English: 31, Math: 29, Reading: 32, Science: 32)
GPA: 3.785 UW
Rank: 33/250
Activities: NHS President, involved in mentoring and tutoring, a state athlete, 2 varsity sports, multiple leadership positions.
Residency: Reciprocity (WI)
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female

Sameeee. Submitted all of my stuff around the same time and have similar stats. Lots of my friends have also heard back already… What college did you apply to? I applied to CLA

I applied to CBS.

Have you guys checked the application tracker? http://admissions.tc.umn.edu/tracker/

@WishYouWereACat yes I check it daily

@overwhelmed22 Don’t worry too much about others who applied after you and heard back sooner. A lot of factors having nothing to do with your application may be affecting that timing or it may be that they were slam dunks for the colleges they were applying to.

Your ACT is clearly where it needs to be for CBS - even the ACT Math of 29 is at the median there. One possible thing hitting the pause button would be the low class rank - over 2/3 of the admits to CBS were in the top 10% according to the most current published enrollment stats (mysteriously, this fall’s entering class isn’t published so the most current available is the class of 2020, but it won’t move that much from year to year): https://oir.umn.edu/student/characteristics

Also, admission to CBS requires four years of science including Physics, chem and bio. Those admitted typically take these courses at the advanced level. If your course load does NOT include those, that could be another “pause” factor.

It’s still early yet and they haven’t finished admitting those from the first deadline. Good luck to you!

@Napzee - assuming you have the same stats, sufficient college-prep courseload and no negative outliers on your application, you should get into CLA w/o difficulty.

@JBStillFlying I’ve taken Biology, AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and I’m currently taking AP Chemistry, so my courseload shouldn’t be an issue. Also, I got a 4 on the AP Calc AB test which should somewhat offset only getting a 29 on the ACT math.

@overwhelmed22: then - even assuming that it actually IS something about your application as opposed to just happening to be in a batch of apps that simply haven’t gone to commitee yet for one reason or another - at most it’s the class ranking being just a tad low which isn’t a big deal in the context of your courseload. You’ve got a good shot. Good luck and be sure to post results when you do hear back!

@JBStillFlying I made a mistake, I do not have the same stats as the original poster. My ACT is the same (31), but my GPA is a 3.7 Weighted instead of unweighted. I’ve taken 6 Ap’s and 5 honors, and have solid ec’s. I am also an African American male if that makes a difference. Do you still think I will be ok for CLA?

@Napzee being an AA male for UMN is always a plus because they want to increase diversity. Your ACT is also above the 75th percentile for CLA which is great news. I think you had said on another thread that your uw gpa is like a 3.3 - 3.5 so I don’t see any major problems, considering the other attributes of your application. The needle swings up, in my view (though I’m not an admissions officer of course). They want to make sure the applicant is college ready; however, your courseload very likely establishes that. What is your planned course of study?

@JBStillFlying Pre-med or pre-dental

Still haven’t heard back…

Same @overwhelmed22

Same here…, no news :frowning:
