I've noticed that several people have said they got calls from the office of admission. If I haven't heard anything, does that mean my chances of getting off the waitlist are nil? Or does do they accept people on a rolling basis? Also, does anyone know about how many people they're taking off this year?

Thanks

I do not have any data for this year, but using last years statistics you can judge your chances:

2010-11
Number of qualified applicants offered a placed on waiting list 529
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 337
Number of wait‐listed students admitted 7

This year there seems to be more people stating they have been admitted from W/L, but the year before 0 (2009-10) were admitted and 12 in the year before that (2008-09)

So based on the last three years (12+0 +7), the average is about 6-7 get taken of the W/L. Again about 330-400 students are on the waitlist, so the chances are around 1 out of 50. Generally Caltech gets their W/L done fairly quickly.
