Haven't received my FA and question about part-time student tuition.

Hi guys,

I just transferred to CSU Long Beach this semester, and it has been quite busy for me. I had just filled out and submitted my FAFSA application at the beginning of March, so I had to pay for tuition out of my pocket. I am wondering if I can still receive financial aid for this semester or not, since I renewed it so late compared to usual. I don’t know if I am qualified or how much I would be getting. Should I just wait for their response?

Another thing is, I am taking four classes this semester, and it’s taken quite a toll on me. The class that I need to take next for my major isn’t offered next semester, so I will have to wait until next Spring. The only thing I can do now is take GE classes and finish up my capstone requirement. I am planning to attend part time, which is about 3 classes this time. Besides the fact that I have work and want to make money, I am also getting bored of the same routine “read book then write essay” of these GE classes. I heard that tuition will increase for part time student, and FAFSA will be cut as well. I don’t mind getting less FA money, but will my tuition increase? I paid $3000 for tuition as a full time student this semester. When I was still in college, I always get roughly about $2800 in aid per semester. Is it true that if I am not a full time student, I will have to pay more for tuition? And is there any consequence for dropping down to part time?

If you f want financial aid for this semester, you need to complete FAFSA 2015-16 forms. Do that and then make sure your FA office knows that you’ve submitted them and are looking for money for THIS semester. If you just filled out FAFSA for 2016-17, you will not get FA for THIS semester.

Usually, if you drop below full time (12 credits at most schools), your FA will be cut. Most schools charge by the credit up to 12, and then it is the same price for 12-18 credits (not all schools do that). You might be ‘hearing’ that the school charges more because on a per credit bases it does cost more. You pay the fees no matter how many credits you take.
Go to the FA office and ask these questions. They will give you better information than you’ll get here.
