havent submitted apps yet...am i screwed?

im applying to a lot of reach schools like harvard, cornell etc. and I haven't submitted any apps for these colleges yet! The only places I've submitted apps for are the UCs and my safety schools, which require no supplements.

Am i screwed in admissions to these top colleges?

If the deadlines haven’t passed and they’re non-rolling schools, then there isn’t a problem.

I sure hope not, since I did the same thing. The official deadline of course is January 1 for nearly all of them, however schools like Harvard are strongly suggesting submitting by December 15, so I think do so by then and you’ll be all right, well, given that you have a good application.

Assuming your schools have deadlines around Jan. 1, they really won’t care even if you submit the night of the deadline. But you should be working on your essays, supplements, etc. so you aren’t stuck doing them all winter break long. If you wait until the last minute, you may regret not putting forth your best representation of yourself.

There is an article on the Tufts website saying they dont care if you submit on Dec 1 on Dec 31 so longs as it is before the deadline. It is called “Procrastinators…” . That might make you feel less panicked.
Some of the schools you mention do not have supplemental essays. So, if you could get your common app essay done or use your UC essay for the common app, you should be able to get a couple done by this weekend. Things will go much faster after that. Good luck.

Your misunderstading of the term “deadline” may portend more to your state of “screwedness” to these schools than the actual submission time of these materials.

As far as applications and supplments go, you still have time and you just have to get them done by the application deadline (often January 1). As long as you do not personally procrastinate further you can do that part. A different issue, and where “being screwed” is a possibility, is getting all the things you need other than your application and supplements. You also have to have others send transcripts, recommendation letters and test scores. If you have not lined those up yet, then you need to act immediately. High schools can often take some time to send transcripts and during the holiday break you are not going to be able to get one sent. Likewise, counselors and teachers are gone during the holidays, teachers take time to write rec letters, and they really don’t want to be working on such things during the holidays. Test scores need to be ordered sent through the testing agency sooner rather than later.

thank you all for your replies. I understand the meaning of deadline, T26E4. Some schools like harvard however, declare that they read the apps in the order that they receive them, which could possibly be a disadvantage if you submit it right before the deadline. I hope you have been nicer to other people in your 10,000 posts on this site.

thank the rest of you for your replies. i submitted a few more apps since i started this topic and i will be finishing my others this week.
