So the title may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but basically I’m having trouble figuring out how/what to write about my overall Common App essay and I don’t think I’ve written a particularly good essay since freshman year, at least according to my teachers. I chose the failure prompt, and I want to write about how I became a better person mentally after trying and failing to lose weight, but I feel like it’s too cliche and I’m not getting my message/any message across. If anyone can tell me their opinion on my topic and possibly read it that would be awesome.
Don’t worry about the topic being “cliché.” With the number of essays they read, the odds are overwhelming that ANYTHING you write about will be a topic they’ve already seen.
You say you’ve tried and failed to lose weight. (And I think it’s a universal topic- I don’t know a lot of people who have had success.) And I get what I think you’re saying-- that it’s made you less concerned about body image and more concerned about the person within that weight.
But I would make it clear that my weight was not at an unsafe level.
