There's nothing I can say that will be of much help, as I don't know what I want to major in or what I want to become. I'm definitely not getting financial aid from Haverford, and I'm pretty sure I'm not getting any from Notre Dame, either. I live too far away to visit either campus, though I know I'd much rather be in Pennsylvania. I honestly think that I'd like Haverford better, with its liberal artiness and all, but Notre Dame would be better for me in the long run. And I'd hate the deal with conversations like this for the rest of my life:

"I went to Haverford."

"HARVARD?!?!?!"

"...Haverford."

"...Oh. What's that?"

It sounds like you prefer HC. Confusing HC with the OTHER school that begins with an "H" is one of the oldest running jokes around. :). One reply, is "Less prestigious... better education".

You may not impress the yokels with HC, but in academia and profesisonal schools, you will do more than fine. ND, also a good academic institution, may have issues with "prestige" as well. Even though it's a fine institution, depending on the circles you travel in, the response might be, "oh... they're good at football, right?"

I hope you are kidding about ND's academic reputation. Just one look at the average stats it takes to get into the school speaks well enough of it.

You post is quite typical of many who like to pidgeonhole ND for its football fanaticism, but it's obviously more than that.

No troll here - just stating the facts, having wandered over to this college's forum from the same post on ND's forum (daughter considering ND as well as Wake Forest and Pepperdine, among other "questionable prestige" schools).

I'm sorry if you took my post the wrong way.

As I said, ND is a fine academic institution... but, it is overshadowed by its football program- simple as that. "You post is quite typical of many who like to pidgeonhole ND for its football fanaticism"- this quote supports what I said, that, yes, in some circles, ND is known more for its football. It's sad that people simplify things down to bullet points, but that's human nature.

Please don't blame me... blame that movie "Rudi". Blame the fact that the football coach probably gets paid more than even the most respected professor at ND. Blame the fact that whenever ND is mentioned in the press, the words "football" is often close behind. All of that stuff makes an imprint on people's perception of the school.

Finally, "prestige" is not all that it's cracked up to be. If that was the case, I certainly wouldn't have gone to HC... or any LAC for that matter. "Academic reputation" is more important.
