Haverford RD 2025

Omg I got WLed at Brandeis last night and I saw you got accepted (congrats)! What a weird process. Sorry about the rejection. You’ve got this and will find a place that wants you!

I’ll trade ya  but in all seriousness congratulations and thank you!! It really is such a random process. and yes wherever we end up will be great because college is what you make of it :relaxed: :relaxed:

Same situation…Haverford and Carleton. And Grinnell. Ignoring location as a factor, for a STEM student planning to pursue a PhD/research - I suspect Carleton or Grinnell may be better. Carleton has a reputation for great teaching and very strong in STEM. Would welcome any opinions.

Do a deep dive into the sciences at Haverford before you make that assumption (and at Carleton and Grinnell as well). Here’s a good place to start: About the Center Congratulations on being accepted to three outstanding LACs. You’ll get an excellent education and research experience at any of these schools.

Thank YOU too! Everyone complains about CC people being mean but most I’ve met are like you, incredibly supportive! Good luck with everything!

No problem. Haverford may be the smallest school of the three you’re considering, but that’s not including the classes and resources available through the tri-college consortium with Bryn Mawr and Swarthmore, plus Penn to a lesser degree. Best of luck.

Congrats everyone! I’m currently a first-year student at Haverford who also had to try and decide which college to attend during COVID. I know that some students may not have had a chance to visit in-person or stay overnight, so I thought I’d come here to offer my perspective on student life here.

A quick background:
I was deciding between four LACs. Carleton, Haverford, Vassar, and Wesleyan. By the time decisions came out, I had only really visited Carleton and Haverford, so I was mostly between those two.

I was/am still currently a prospective pre-med student. Because med schools don’t require a specific major, I wasn’t too worried about choosing the college w/ the “stronger department of my major”. Right now, I am undecided, but I am interested in either a social science major or science major. Haverford recently added a Neuroscience major! We still have the minor, but now you can major in neuro if that’s something that interests you (Note: Carleton only has a neuro minor)! It’s a very recent announcement, so I don’t have a lot of info other than the major requirements. I’m thinking of doing a major and a minor. Prolly some combo of Neuro/History/Religion/Philosophy.

If anyone has questions, you can DM me if that’s more comfortable for you, or I can answer them on the thread if that works better for you.

To all of the admitted students reading this: please take the time to learn what you are getting yourself into before you decide to come to Haverford. As the strike demonstrated, there is a significant amount of bullying and harassment on campus. While some might seek to downplay this, you can look here to see the extent of it: Race and Social Panic at Haverford: A Case Study in Educational Dysfunction

As a current Haverford student, I will say that I would not have decided to come here if I knew then what I know now. The social environment on campus enables truly terrible behavior, and the administration does not have the gumption to stand up against it. Despite all that happened this fall, the administration has shown minimal interest in fixing these issues, instead kowtowing to the rhetoric of the strikers. If you value respect and integrity, do not come here, as these values are in short supply in this campus environment.

Just letting both this person and others know that Skieurope closed the previous thread on this subject for a reason-- it was getting too contentious. I have an opinion on the strike (different than this poster’s opinion) but just hoping we can have productive discussion with minimal attacks. We don’t want this thread to be closed too.

Its interesting that you only wrote this when I made an anti-strike post but not when milgymfam made a pro-strike post a week ago… nyckid02 asked for opinions about what has been happening on campus, and I believe that not only positive responses should be welcome.

Milgymfan was asked to write a post, and they and EyeVeee also use CC for purposes other than bringing up the strike. Not saying that you are not allowed to post here, just encouraging everyone involved not to duplicate the thread that was closed by re-igniting the same discourse.

Perhaps in a strange way, all this conflict at Haverford is making the school a more attractive option. One of my initial concerns was the size of the school, but it seems like despite its size, this is far from being a homogeneous and comfy community…which is a good thing for a college, in my opinion.

Does anyone know if Haverford will be mailing out acceptance letters this year?

apparently they said in the admitted students q&a that they won’t be sending out letters because of COVID, but will be sending “goodies”

I got a fedex notification about a package and IDK what it is. I wonder if it is from haverford

Hi! Could u explain why you chose Haverford over Wes?

Unfortunately, I don’t have much info on that. I was only able to visit Carleton and Haverford before the lockdown, but I felt comfortable at both colleges.

Wesleyan has the biggest student body of the three though and has some really cool majors. Sorry that I can’t help more!

Hi! Would you be able to share your impressions of Haverford vs Carleton? They both seem great, but it’s hard to contrast them not having had a chance to visit either.

Have you attended any of the virtual visitation options? Campus tours, student info sessions, etc…
