I am an incoming freshman and I am going to become a nursing student. With my schedule, there is one day where I'll have 6 classes, which is from 8am-8:30pm on a Tuesday. On Monday I have 2 classes, Wednesday I have 1 class, Thursday I have 3 classes, and on Friday I have 1 class. Now, On tuesday I have a one hour break. I'm just wondering, for any of those with experience... Is 6 classes in one day too hard for a freshman nursing student? If I do decide to reschedule then I would only be able to remove one class from Tuesday and switch it to other days. The class I can switch is orignally on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but if I decide to change it I can have to to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. What is your opinion? Would there be a point in changing it? I'm going to have a few hours of free time if I do on Tuesday, but I'm still going to be staying until 8:30.

also, if i do switch it.. i'd have the free time after my first class on Tuesday, and then continue on with 4 other classes. I also like the idea of having one class on Wednesdays and Fridays, but I guess i'm willing to add another class if it makes things easier.

That sounds like wicked overkill, especially for a freshman. If they were more spaced out and you had multiple breaks you might be ok, but most people are tired from just three classes in a row since they’re longer than high school classes. If you can switch a class I’d definitely recommend it, especially for your first semester when you’re still figuring out how much you can reasonably take on.

I have taken 5 classes back to back in one day and it was terrible. It is really mentally and emotionally draining having to go from class to class to class without breaks or with only one break. If you are able to shuffle things around to get more breaks, I would highly recommend it. Especially since you are only a freshman, you don’t know yet what you can handle as far as course load goes.

Yeah, I seriously can’t imagine 6 in a day. The most I’ve had before is 4 in a day and I was really worn out after that. I would try to avoid having that many classes on any particular day if at all possible.

I once had class from 8AM to 8PM with only a half hour break scheduled in, and then I had work from 8PM to midnight right after. And I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. It was rough going, and over the quarter, I started skipping classes so I could eat or take a nap. It has nothing to do with how many classes it is, but all to do with being over a 12 hour day with only an hour break (that’s longer than most workdays!).

No one can tell you want you can handle, and if this is the schedule that works the best for you, then do it. But go in with your eyes open–this is longer than a day in high school, and I think most college students agree, that they can’t imagine having a schedule of college classes packed together the way high school classes were.

Also, consider when your tests are going to be. You could, quite possibly, have two or three or four exams in one day, and not only is that stressful to take, but it’s really stressful to prepare for. It’s definitely possible to have this schedule and be very successful, but you just have to ask if it’s worth it.

I would do whatever u can to switch. The most classes in one day should be 4 at the max. This fall, I have 4 classes on M and W. But only 3 of them are even lectures and their spaced out with breaks.

I know a lot of people who like the idea of packing all there classes in a few days to get other days off. Not worth it to me cuz on the days u don’t have class u will always be doing work and trying to catch up because u were exhausted from having a whole day of classes. Also u might have multiple midterms on the same day, even if not all ur hw will be due on those days. I think classes should be spread out through the week.
