Hi, I am an incoming freshman and I’m trying to create a prospective schedule for the fall term. I wanted to spread my classes out throughout the day but I’m having difficulty doing so. I was wondering how feasible it is to have two classes back to back? I realize they put a 10 minute break in between each period but do classes usually end on time? Do you think I will have enough time to walk between classes? Will it be too stressful to have two classes back to back?

I’m planning on taking ENGN0030, CHEM0330, MATH0200, and a FYS.

edit: Also: What is the difference between S01, C01 and L01? I’m guessing S01 is the lecture and L01 is the lab but I don’t get what C01 is (for CHEM0330)?

You’ll be just fine, as long as they’re not entirely across campus from each other. Classes do end at 10 before the hour, and if they don’t, it’s not like high school where you are required to arrive exactly on time.

S01 is lecture, L01 is lab, C01 is a conference section (needed to prepare for lab). Do remember that you need to take the lecture and the lab together, unlike in other schools where you can take them in different semesters.

In general, you’re fine looking a bit at this stuff, but don’t stress over classes right now. You’ll have lots of time to shop, and you’ll get a lot of great advice from your Meiklejohns and advisors.

Lots of people have classes right after each other. In my four years at Brown, I remember only one time I had to rush to get across campus. I don’t understand the benefit to spreading your classes out – I think it’s better time management-wise to have them clumped together, which leaves large blocks of time to study, do ECs, work out or hang out.
