having a degree doesn't make you smart

having a degree doesn't make you smart. i mean, you are pathetic if you need a piece of paper that tells you that you are smart to think you are smart. some of the smartest people i know have never went to college and they are more intelligent than a lot of people i know that got their college degrees.

Since your other thread took a turn for FAIL, you’ve opted to switch sides. LOL.

seriously. i know lots of nit-wits that have college degrees.

Is this news or something? When a majority of the population gets degrees how could it mean that you are smart?

Thank you, Professor Obvious.

Considering not many people here have a college degree, I doubt you’ll face much objection.

But NOT having a degree doesn’t make you smart either. You’ll learn that what makes success isn’t “intelligence.” It’s intelligence and really hard work. Most people do that hard work starting in college.

No kidding. Ideally, it’s the process of getting a degree that should “make you smart”. The fact that this isn’t necessarily true just demonstrates how screwed up higher education is today.

lol

I wonder if dropping out of college will make me smart. I mean, Bill Gates did it…

How do you know how smart they are? Did you measure their IQs?

The following statement is true:

Some people without college degrees are more intelligent than some people with college degrees.

The following statement is also true:

Some people with college degrees are more intelligent than some people without college degrees.

You are not really adding anything to your argument.

Getting a degree never has made and never will make you “smart.” By the age of 18, your intelligence is pretty much fixed, and there’s not much you can do about it.

Getting a degree is proof that you are not dumb.

Not going to college says little about your level of intelligence.

If you are neurotic about the way people perceive your level of intelligence going to college is rarely a bad idea.

What’s the point of this thread? Just stating the obvious? Because in that case:

This thread has failure written all over it, just like your last thread.

Having a degree makes you employed. It alleviates the need to be smart to thrive.

And is anyone really going to argue that in general people with college degrees are dumber than those without? There may be cases but it’s certinly not the norm.

“Is this news or something? When a majority of the population gets degrees how could it mean that you are smart?”

Only about 1 in 4 Americans has a BA. It’s nowhere near 50%.

I don’t believe having a college degree makes you more intelligent then your non-college degree holding counterparts. How can one be compared? What kind of intelligence are you comparing since there are so many variations that are impossible to be applied to one template.

I know many adults that have degrees but are far from your typical “educated” and “intelligent” individual.

“By the age of 18, your intelligence is pretty much fixed, and there’s not much you can do about it.”

That’s incorrect. Your brain doesn’t stop developing at any set age.

C’est vrai…

Anyways, who wants attention? Buy some, get some free whenever you post stupid stuff like this.

That’s from the population as a whole, I am talking about the younger generation which are taking their degrees now. USA have roughly 70% college enrolment, it haven’t been like that for a long time which is why the stats on how many got degrees are not matching those.

And of course it doesn’t take into account the drop outs but I doubt there are more than 30% college drop outs of those who starts.

But half of that population is like aging baby-boomers man. Not our demographic.

What the hell is the point of this thread? No, having a degree doesn’t make you smart, the process of attaining the degree doesn’t make you smart, displaying the diploma on your wall doesn’t make you smart.

In other news, Barack Obama is President of the USA, the economy is in trouble, and Wall Streets getting a bailout…

Is this some kind of game where we all point out the obvious? :p

Maybe not everyone, but college can make you smarter. Seeing as the entire point of going is to learn. It probably won’t make you more intelligent, but it will make you smarter.

I agree, Euler.

Some people say they got a liberal arts degree to learn how to think, but the only person who can teach you how to think is yourself.

You go to college to learn skills and facts that will help you become a better, more knowledgeable employee.
