Having a job, 4 ap classes, and spot on varsity team?

I just got a job this summer and it was mainly a summer job. I really don't want to quit but I think i'd be too stressful to continue. I wouldn't be able to work during the week anyways because I have practices and races. I was going to see if I could just work weekends but I also have practice on Saturdays and races on the weekends. Even on the weekends I don't have races, do you think i'd even be possible for me to work while completing homework?

I feel like I definitely need to quit but I'm not sure how to bring that up? Should I just give my two week notice next week and tell them I enjoyed working but I just don't think it'll work out? Everyone seems to like me and they always call me in because we're short on people sometimes so I don't want them to feel like I'm screwing their business up. Should I write a letter and what should I say when I give it to them? Or do you think I should just try and balance everything and just work on the weekends?

it sounds like you already know that you won’t be able to manage well if you keep your job during the school year. just let your boss know that you’re quitting. your a HS student working during the summer, I don’t think he/she will be too surprised.

I had a job in high school and it messed up my grades a little 1 semester. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to handle the Ap and honors courses load yet I still continued with the job which I kind of regret. I quit soon after and told my manager that I was planning on going to college (UC Berkeley) (I told him the college I wanted to go to so that he would know the seriousness behind school work. You should do the same and tell him that you just needed the summer money and that school is priority at the moment. Oh don’t forget that when you tell him that your leaving that you will be able to work 2 more weeks at most before you leave. (2 week notice)

Thanks guys! You’re right, I really don’t want to have to stress out about a job. But should I write a letter?

I don’t think a letter is really necessary, just ask your boss if you can have a private conversation and explain that you’d love to continue working, but it interferes with your studies and that’s why you’re putting in your 2 weeks. also, protip, let your boss know that you’d be interested in working the summer after this year as well.

I mean, I don’t know how casual your summer job is, but at my job (for just the summer) a girl got another job, gave her two weeks, and it was all cool.

tl;dr: I think a letter is overdoing it
