Having a mental breakdown choosing!!'

Hi guys, I really need help to find some possible colleges to apply to. I wanted to get a list for my summer college visits.

Here's some info about me:
I'm pursuing a neuropsych or neuro and psych double major
I got a 2350 on my SAT first try
I have a 3.8 unweighted GPA
I'm doing an internship at a pediatric neuroscience clinic in the children's national medical center

So about my potential colleges:
It need to be in a city, I can't stand the thought of a college town in the middle of nowhere (no offense)!
It needs to have good ops for internships.
It needs to have need based scholarships, cuz my single mom only makes 35,000 and we rely on that

I was considering schools in NYC cause its my favorite city, but Columbia seems really hard to get into and NYU, from what I heard, sucks with fin aid. Please help!

Macalester has strong neuro, is in a city, and gives good need and merit based aid. Obviously not in New York (actually in Minnesota), but fits your other criteria.

You might want to look at Penn (Philadelphia), Johns Hopkins (Baltimore) and Pitt for neuroscience.

Ask everyone who works at your internship for their opinions!!! They are a great source of inside information.
B.U., Northeastern, B.C., Tufts, JHU, CMU(?), GWU, Georgetown, Tulane

Penn would meet your full need. [Financial Aid Policies](<a href=“Submit My Documents | Penn Student Registration & Financial Services| Penn Srfs”>Submit My Documents | Penn Student Registration & Financial Services| Penn Srfs)

You would have a good chance for full tuition merit at Pitt.

I’ve heard a lot about Penn, it’s definitely on the list. So are Columbia an NYU just cuz I already planned on visiting. But is Penn really as preppy as everyone (cousin Of mine goes there) makes it out to be? I don’t mean to be shallow, I’m just wondering.

Are you a woman? You should probably apply to Columbia (your scores are at least within their competitive pile), but it really sounds like you should consider Barnard, too. A lot of the perks of Columbia but a lot easier to get into, and a tight-knit women’s community in the midst of our nation’s biggest city.

Northeastern has good merit aid I heard and a co-op program (internships) + it is in Boston

It has Behavioral Neuroscience and Psychology majors

Ok, it’s not nowhere close in terms of reputation of the other schools mentioned here and the only reason I mention it is because it’s in New York and you would probably max out their merit aid–Wagner College, and they have a biopsychology major. Just a possibility.

Don’t forget Stanford. Except for (I’m guessing) being far away from your hometown, it would have everything you need.

Columbia is hard to get into, of course, but you have a 2350 SAT score and a great GPA. You should still apply.

Also try the Macaulay Honors program at the CUNY schools - you may be specifically interested in Hunter (the best of the CUNYs, arguably) or City College (which focuses on science and engineering), but Lehman College in the Bronx also just finished a $17 million science center. Caveat is that living in NYC is expensive, but OOS tuition at CUNY is only $11,000 a year.

Fordham University may also have some good merit aid for a student like you.

I second Johns Hopkins for the neuroscience stuff. GWU has pretty bad financial aid, too; they’re like NYU in that regard (and way overpriced). I also second the suggestion of Boston U.

You may also want to look at Emory, in Atlanta. You are more than likely eligible for their Woodruff Scholars program - I have a friend who went there under that program on a full scholarship. He graduated from WUSTL’s medical school this past May.
