Having a much better GPA in major classes than overall?

So I have a much better GPA for classes in my major( journalism), then overall (like a 2.5 compared to a 3.4) Is this necessarily a completely bad thing? How will future employers look at this?

That’s good.

I’ve seen employers that specify a GPA in major courses and a lower one overall so yes, employers can look at the two separately.

Mention it in your cover letter when you apply for a job. Tell them, “hey, look at my amazing major GPA!” Otherwise they may see your low overall GPA and throw out your application.
