Having a printer?

Is having a printer really necessary? I'm in a single so I won't have a roomie to share one with, and my parents won't get me one yet because we only have a limited time to shop around when I move in. I was wondering where the nearest computer lab is to the Marshall res halls? And how do you pay for printing? Thanks!

Ask your suitemates if they’re bringing one so then you won’t need to worry about it. Saving up on money!

It’s not necessary, but it helps.

You could ask one of your suitemates to help print stuff out for you. Just offer to chip in for ink or something.

Bring a printer, but only use it as a last resort. That’s what I’m doing.

I don’t think it’s necessary. Even when I had one, I still preferred to use the library printers.

(and yeah, people will borrow it a lot. most don’t offer to pay.)

Where can I print my documents for the cheapest price?

unlike dining dollars, they carry over year to year.

I always felt having my printer was necessary. Though I go through ink and paper like nobody’s business, so that’s just me.
Get one with a scanner if you’re in the market.

I’m bringing a toner business printer that I bought off craigslist for $40… my friend/ roommate chipping in 50/50 on supplies.

I bought a $50 brother laser printer last year from office depot during a sale and I’d say it’s a pretty good investment. I went through about a pack and half of paper last year, so I got my money’s worth and I still have most of the toner left. If you’re going to buy, a laser is definitely a better investment than an inkjet, those ink cartridges run out too quickly.

If you’re the type to print out a lot of things, practice homework & exams, answers, or taking a class that requires a lot of printing, I would say to get one. I had warren writing, and with all the drafts and extra copies for classmates to revise, I printed a lot. Plus I can’t work on the computer when professors post questions/exams up, I like to have it physically in my hands.

A big +1 at what x3anna said; aside I wouldn’t go for a brother printer due to their lower service life expectancy and brother’s rather recent entry into the market, if you’re looking for a new one… trust me there’s a reason why HP dominates the business and home laser printer market EVEN despite their higher prices. ;)

Not to mention, you can spot a difference in printing quality if you have experience between both brands… trust me, my uncle also jumped for that exact same one from Office Depot (let me guess its white on the top with a strip leading down and the rest of the body is black and has a prominent blue button)… and it was $50 after a mail in rebate.

I love hp~ lol. I have a combo inkjet and a laser printer. But my roommate thinks I should bring the inkjet because he just loves having a scanner/copier at hand. ]: But I absolutely hate inkjets (anyone who uses a laser regularly would most likely know what I mean). They run out of ink so quickly and it seems primitive how it prints your documents line by line xD. Maybe I should bring both the laser and the inkjet combo?

^if they’re both your printers, you should bring whichever one you want. if your roommate REALLY wants an inkjet that bad, he can just go buy one.
bringing both might take up a lot of space.

Errr here’s a tip since we’re talking about both varieties. Most/ if not all combo copiers can still act as a standalone scanner w/o ink; just scan with the inkjet and then print with laserjet. And whatyagot? A black and white copier that takes up only less than a quarter of the space of a full size.

In my opinion, having a printer is necessary investment. Some people share, but it just gets complicated. Most people have their own ink printer, but I got a laser jet printer because it prints faster and nicer (even though it’s a lot bigger).

I have my own, but I’m really lazy and I’ll print out tons of powerpoints and stuff. My suitemates always offered money or something to use my printer, or they’d chip in for ink or buy me dinner. I only REALLY needed to print out warren writing papers though.

On that note^ ink is more expensive than blood. =0
