since this is a private college, would having a family member as an alumnus help your chance of getting in? Also are they formulaic like UC's or more like other private schools that take more interests in you ec's as well as others than strictly to your gpa and sat

I know that having legacy relations is a major factor, but I'm not sure of the exact details as to how it is factored in.

But don't count on it solely. I work in an office that deals with alumni relations, and we have to deal with many alumni who are literally furious about "so and so" in their family not getting accepted, etc.

haha...:) yeah.. I'm going to apply to USC but am definitely not dependent on my family legacy to pull me in. i'm not a superb out of this world student but just a normal (considerable) gpa and test scores.. (not the "decent" used by the ccers with >10.0 gpa (lol jk).How close do you have to be in order to be considered as a family relation thing?

family relations play a big part i think... two of my friends both had family rel. and they got rejected by usc, but usc offered them a "second chance." basiclaly... usc said that if they maintain a minimum of 3.3 gpa in community college for the first year.. .they're guaranteed to get in sophomore year.
