It's important that I go to a college with great academics, like Berkeley, but it's also really important to me that I don't spend my whole time stressing out and studying. Is there a party scene around Berkeley (clubs, bars, etc.)? And how easy/difficult is it to make friends? I can't decide between Berkeley and UCLA, mainly because I feel that networking would be easier around LA and more beneficial (if I want to find an internship at some place that has to do with entertainment). Anyway, how much fun do you guys have at Berkeley? Is it primarily just focused on academics?

Yes, there is a big party scene at Berkeley. Live in the units, you will make friends instantly and will all go out to frat parties in groups every weekend. Some people will stop going eventually, but a lot of people will keep going throughout the year. You’ll go to the parties, dress up if there is a theme, drink/dance, probably have some drama, and then stumble back home and probably get food on the way. I lived in Unit 3 for 2 years and all this happened both years and was pretty fun lol. Study hard during the week and party hard at least once on weekends. I’ve had friends from other UCs including UCLA complain about how they wished they had a real frat row because there are much fewer parties there and are harder to get into and you can’t just get alcohol for free.

I feel so much better about this now! My friends who go to UCLA always talk about parties, whereas people who attend Cal seem to never do anything besides study. Thanks! :)
