I don't see why people like to "have fun" during the summer! The summer is the best time to like prepare for standardized tests cuz you have so much time! You could also get ready for your upcoming classes and get As in them! I think its stupid that people spend entire summers at the beach or something... Even though you "have" fun for three months, think of what will happen in the future! If you prepare for everything in the summer and get good grades, go to ivy school, and go to top grad school, then you can have fun for the rest of your life cuz you're making so much money and can retire earlier, let alone 3 months! You won't have that many financial difficulties too!

Hmmm, last year all I did was have fun during the summer, didn't care much about college or SAT's then. Instead I just left my apps for December, stressful, but hell, at least I still had a free summer :)

Some peole actually have to work in the summer to make money so they can pay for those "ivies" and "top grad schools". I have been working full time every summer since 13. Now I am just working part time so I can see my friends before heading off to college.

Sarcasm, without a doubt?

this is not sarcasm... Hanging out on the beach during the summer will NOT get you into college

pilebay, thats a good, cuz you're working towards college, not like those slackers who have fun during the summer and hang out with friends...

who needs friends? they won't get you into college... (This isn't sarcasm)

Maybe you need a "balance" between having fun and studying. Efficient workers are very productive and have high outputs, but at the same time, they still manage to squeeze in a little bit of fun.

Before summer has begun, I always thought that I could FINALLY study for my SATs 24/7, but reality proves that it's not very possible. Balance is the key.

bach is a troll. add him to your ignore list :/

Like, oh em gee, your excessive use of exclamation marks is annoying no matter how sarcastic you are!

***, why won't you people let me voice my opinion?

because your opinion isn't worth **** , any more doubts?

justinian I? was that the hardcore christian dude who kept flaming everyone who didn't embrace jesus haha?

*you will look back on your entire highschool (undergrad, and grad) life with a negative attitude, not to mention you wont develop social skills or have anything to talk about when you finally talk to people when you are 30 (ever seen 40 year old virgin...hint hint). *

lol...i was thinking the same thing.

I doubt people like you, the OP, are ever gonna be happy. It seems that you aren't satisfyed with the life you got now and you think that if you work your ass of now and make a ton of money then you will enjoy life. It's flagrantly cliche but "money can't buy happiness". It's a lot easier and more effective to change your outlook on life than your lifestyle.

there, i'm done being philosphical, now im gonna go kill some m-f****** on halo.

Trust me... I've known a lot of people with crappy jobs that pay very little that aren't happy because of their financial situation... They said they wished they worked harder in school and got better grades...

All work and no play make Johnny a dull boy...

Anyway, I work parttime in the summer. But the part when I am not working, I'm not studying either. I just read everything I can get my hands on.

Money isn't the key to happiness. Money shouldn't affect your happiness whether your're completely rich or completely destitute.

Ivy Leaguers tend to be a social bunch. Not knowing how to have fun means a rather pathetic existence at your top school.

Is the first post a joke? Maybe also need to work all life to have some happiness in 15 years of (short from exhaustment and coffee drunk) retirement? I don't know about you, but I want to have fun all the way through.
And if for you "fun" is something like hanging out in beach (which is a very good thing to do) and you can't afford it for yourself, then, I'm sorry but you're in big troubles for the rest of your life. Because "fun" is also studying for test in 4:00 AM, filling material of the year in a week, and constructing model of molecular diffractor using differential equations.

If that doesn't sound like a fun for you -- I'm sorry, your place is not in Ivies because they actually expect you to have fun doing everything they tell you.
Don't consider my post as prediction of your rejection, but honestly, would you spend four years of your life on something bitter even in Harvard? Life on Earth is too damn short to waste four years on something "not-fun".

do you not listen to anything anyone says on here? does working hard in school equate to having no fun? no, you ignorant ****. why dont you take some advice from the people whove voiced their opinions. have you noticed that NOT ONE PERSON has agreed with you?

you know what makes me hate you so much? its your whole idea that if you go to the ivys, you will automatically become rich. wrong. you think you will get into a sweet grad school or do well on a job interview when you have no experiences on life to draw on? hell no. i think youve created this whole thread to serve as a way to make yourself feel better about yourself because the people you admire have fun, and you will never be accepted by them.

If this isn't a troll, then it's an idiot.

So in the instance that it is in fact, not a troll, my advice is basically the same as everyone else's. Life is not about getting into college, or even about making lots of money so you can retire early. Having fun is an important aspect of life, especially for a high school/college student. You can have fun and study too.

You always need balance, true, but its the matter of picking the right time. If you got SAT/AP/finals coming up in a week or two, you gotta devote most of your time to studying, while still managing to squeeze in a little bitty of fun (going to the movies with friends only takes two-three hours). If it's just a quiet part of the year like september 3rd or january 26th, you sure can let yourself have some fun while keeping your grades up. If it's summer, all studying must go to hell and you are obligated to relax and have fun. Even if you have a summer assignment to do, like read a book foa ap lit, do it slowly throughout the 2.5 months of summer, or just leave it for last 3 weeks. But dont be obsessed with academics.
it freakin' hilarious how high-schoolers or even college students say "yeah, i have to work to pay for college" (usually with a deep and low voice). thats just pathetic. nobody makes even $6-7k (the average cost of going in-state) a year while in high school or even in college.
It's also funny how people say that they work to have their own money because they want to be independent. Dude, as long your mommy and daddy pay your house payments/rent, utility bills, and buy food, the degree of independence you get with making $300-400 a month is just scanty.
