Having the same professor for 2 classes?

So would it be a good idea to have the same professor for 2 different classes? I was considering it because this semester i have a writing class and critical thinking class, in which we write a lot of essays, and it can be confusing because my professors grade very differently and have different rules/guidelines on how to write. Next semester I have the second half of the writing class and second half of the CT class so I was thinking having the same professor would be less stressful because i can expect that he wants the same thing in the essays and it will cut down on the confusion. So do you guys think that's a good idea? Would it be weird having the same professor twice?

As a professor, I’ve had students who take multiple classes with me in the same semester. My teaching schedule means that I see them twice on the same days. If you like the professor, it will be fine! The only downside I’ve seen is that you might need to sit through similar announcements in both classes. (And it can be a great way to get to know a prof for a recommendation down the line…)

This can be either awesome or terrible.

Before you register, be sure to go to ratemyprofessors or ask people how this particular professor is. If he is a good professor then go for it! You will get to know your professor more than the other students, and that can help you a LOT in the long run. I have had the same professor for all of the chemistry courses I have ever taken and I absolutely love it; I understand his teaching style and it makes the transition into a new class so much easier. And like stradmom said, you never know when you might need someone to put in a good word, for a professional reference, or a letter of reccomendation! Good luck!

I loved taking multiple classes with the same professor. One of my professor’s I actually took 5 classes with plus he was my adviser for my senior year capstone project. If you like the professor than go for it! It’s always good to develop relationships with your professors so you can ask them for job recommendation letters after graduation.

That’s me right now! I have the same prodessor back-to-back for 2 classes, though it’s technically by force since no one else teaches the classes this prof teaches (but I do like the prof).

But as stradmom said, the class announcements do get redundant and, if the classes are back-to-back, you can feel more tired. I’d recommend sitting in a different spot during the second class if this happens so it’ll at least feel a little different for you.

It’s definitely good for getting recommendations, too. Your professor will know you better if they see you more often, so they’re definitely in a better position to assess your abilities and your character.
