Having Trouble Checking Status of App

I totally understand. There are tons of students like you, and Tulane has a very large northeastern representation. Personally, and this is of course just my take on it, I think it is very important to get a few hundred miles away, minimum. It really opens up the whole experience and adds a significant dimension to it. I grew up in St. Louis, and I eliminated any schools within a 400 mile radius, lol.

Which schools have you been most impressed with so far? I can guarantee you will not find the Tulane campus to be “sterile”, and be sure to take in Audubon Park, go over to Magazine street (opposite side of Audubon Park, take care of both things and makes for a great walk), and ride the streetcar all the way down to the French Quarter. That will give you a pretty good feel for the environment that impacts you at Tulane. Whoever you stay with will probably also take you over to Broadway and to Carrollton, which are the other important off-campus elements at Tulane that enhance day-to-day life.

Good Luck!

Well, I really like an intellectual environment where the students also know how to have fun. I haven’t visited Tulane yet, but that’s what I loved so much about Cornell. I spent a night there with my friend.

Everyone was very bright, you could tell from being around them. But they tended to act very ‘normal’ too in the sense that they seemed very much like fun-loving college students who didn’t spend Friday night in the library. I want a place where something like a political discussion in the dining hall wouldn’t be abnormal or ridiculed, but where everyone knows how to let loose on a Friday night as well.

I like lots going on around town and on campus. I visited Carnegie Mellon, and I could tell I probably wouldn’t like it there. The atmosphere seemed overly academic (which I consider different from intellectual) and the campus was very sterile and in a rich residential neighborhood. Fordham too, seemed like a sterile campus. I couldn’t stand that the campus wasn’t even really ‘open’. I had to pass through security to just get onto campus. Northeastern had a nice campus, but being there with a student I know and listening to people talk, it didn’t seem as intellectual of an atmosphere as I like.

I have to say, that all those schools I’m ragging on are obviously fantastic schools, and I don’t want to come off as smug… I just don’t know if they’d be the places for me.

Anyway, to conclude a very long response to your simple question, the campuses I liked the most so far are probably Cornell and the University of Chicago.

My application is FINALLY complete. Thank God. I was starting to get concerned.

I have a question, and I thought it’d be better just to post here.
From what I read, most people’s application status says something along the lines of “pending review”, but mine says “rendering a decision”…

Undergraduate Admissions (2010 Fall)
Your application is complete. The Committee on Admission is working to render your decision as quickly as possible. If you have questions regarding your status, please call the Undergraduate Admission Office at 800-873-WAVE (9283).

Is that what everyone else is getting? And It’s been like that almost 2 weeks now. Some of my friends in my school have gotten in already, submitting the app around the same time as I did.

We had that message for two weeks before the good news. Best of luck!!!

ds’s status uses that same terminology – “render your decision.”

DD finally got notice of acceptance 2 weeks after application marked “complete”. If anyone is having issues with missing recs, scores etc. I recommend a call to admissions. My DD applied way back in Sept. and status was never “complete”. She even asked GC to resend transcripts, recs. Finally, she listened to me (LOL) and called admissions. After playing phone tag, she finally got a live person. Seems they had 2 separate files on my DD. I am thinking one was name w/middle name, one without middle name. Anyway, they merged them and status went to complete almost instantly. Never hurts to call!

Forgot to list DD stats:

ACT 34
GPA W/UW 4.0/4.96
2/647
will have 9APs at end of senior year
Great recs
ECs: Colorguard 4yrs (captain)

**now to think of something for that pesky box!

Alright, thanks guys.
I’ll just be eagerly waiting my decision.

PRobably another week. I stretched the truth a bit in my last post, only one week so far

Okay, so I submitted my application two days ago and have not received a confirmation email that Part one was received. I tried calling and left a message at the office. Should I just submit it again? I have all the information because it gave me a copy or should I wait? Help!!

I think submitting again is problematic. Then they’ll establish 2 files for you! It’s Saturday so probably nothing is happening until Monday anyway. I don’t remember if there was a confirmation e mail. I think such information was on the page where you check your status.

I agree with Vitrac. Have a little patience, this isn’t like Amazon where things are instantly posted, there is more to the process. And as others have documented, it is possible for 2 files to be created so you don’t want to submit twice. Nov. 15 is a major deadline, so I would say send an e-mail to your admissions counselor and then be patient until they get back to you.

Okay I was thinking that wouldn’t be a smart idea. I was supposed to receive an email after I submitted the personal information (part one) portion, but I’m hoping everything is just backed up perhaps since the deadline is tomorrow. I will try emailing them.
