I was wondering whether I should take the SAT Physics subject test, as it seems quite difficult. I am debating between taking Physics or Chemistry.

Can you score high with self-study, or is it necessary to have taken AP Physics B/C? Is the test easier/harder than the AP Physics Test?

Also, for self study/prep, what prep books prepare you to score high(700+)?

Is the Chem one easier/more manageable? Or does it also need AP Chem knowledge to ace it?

I want to know which one is easier to get a high score on.

Thank you for the advice. I greatly appreciate all info...

i think physics is more self-study-able if you're good at physics, cuz most of the things are common sense (eg. compress gas, pressure increase). and no, you dont need to take AP physics to score high, also, im pretty sure its easier than AP physics.
im not very sure about chem though, chem stuff is less common sense and i would advise you to take an ap course if you want to score 800.
in my opinion, physics is better, the curve is much more generous than the chemistry one.

prep books: princeton review is very good, and has accurate practice tests (this goes for physics, not sure for chem), also use sparknotes for prep and practice tests since it's free.

yes physics is a REALLY easy curve.. i was in ap physics b this year and i thought the SAT was as easy as the ap test (which was pretty freakin easy)

i took chem last year as a sophomore when i was in chem honors and I got 770.. you could definitely get 800 without chem AP

physics is an easy 800 if you are self-studying at the physics b/c AP level
