I got into BC Carroll and Villanova Business. Money is the same at both schools. Here are some of my thoughts so far:
BC is probably the better overall school, but the business programs are comparable. BC has better sports since football, hockey, and basketball are big while Nova only has basketball. Boston is a better city than Philly. The social life at BC is better than Nova. BC seems to have more of a national rep while Nova is more regional. Both have equally strong alumni networks in Manhattan. I liked BC’s campus and location better than Nova but you can’t go wrong with Nova really. I visited Nova this past weekend and I liked it a lot, but I didn’t get that “feeling” that you’re supposed to get once you find the place you will attend. I was really impressed with the program they had yesterday, which is why I’m having trouble making this decision. I’m visiting BC this weekend.

I live in New Jersey and Villanova is a lot closer, but that’s more of an issue with my parents than myself. I actually like the fact that it’s not really close.

As you might be able to point out, it looks as though I’m leaning towards BC. I’m probably forgetting a few things, but I want to know if there is anything else I should consider and what you think of my analysis. Where would you go in this situation?

I grew up in Villanova's backyard (my mom is an alum) and I don't get the appeal. Students rarely go into Philadelphia, there is not a great campus culture, and students do not have the opportunity to get sports tickets. If you want to live in Philadelphia or New Jersey forever, it is fine, but it is not going to develop a national reputation any time soon.

If it is the distance that you are worried about, here is my solution: go to BC, if you can't handle being that far away transfer. The fact that it would be a lot easier to transfer from BC to Villanova than reverse should tip you off...

i must say, that villanova and BC were my top 2 as well, but BC was my number one from the start. i've visited both schools twice and came to this conclusion. had i not gotten into BC, i would have been very happy at villanova, i would not have been disappointed to go there. But, since i did get into BC, i am attending for the reasons that you have stated. its slightly better in multiple ways, and it is more prestigious.

Is BC known on a national level, or just the eastern seaboard?
I am from Boston and there it is second to none, but what about out west? Do people even know what you mean when you say "BC"?

Considering California is the fourth most represented state at BC, I say yes. And considering we kick the crap out of North Dakota year after year in hockey, I say they are getting to now us too.

The main reason why I'm not as sure as I was is because of how impressive the business program is at Nova. I'm sure that BC will give that impression as well when I go there again. Anyone know what the differences between both schools are in terms of job opportunities and internships?

im pretty sure that BC and Nova are ranked practically identically business wise. if i remember correctly theyre both in the top 15 but not top 10 for undergrad business schools. BC has the advantage though because of the business opportunities in boston and it has a very strong alumni program.

i was making the same exact decision last year. it came down to the fact that i would get a completely equal education at both BC and Villanova business schools. fin aid was just about the same and i went back and forth between my decision for MONTHS.

in the end i chose BC on a whim because i wanted something different. i liked the city of boston better than philly, and the football culture at BC. im also from jersey and about an 1.5 hours from nova, little over 4 hours from BC. i actually wanted to be closer to home despite my final decision.. its not TOO much of a pain to get home from BC and there are always TONS of people from my area to carpool with if i dont wanna take the bus.

i also wanted something more geographically diverse. ive lived within the same 10 miles of jersey my entire life and the vast majority of the nova student body comes from ny/nj/pa. now at BC ma is the biggest followed by ny, nj, then ca i believe. i also remember my talk with a senior during my admitted eagle day and some of the thigns she said were exactly what i wanted to hear. and then there was awlays the talk about vanillanova and villanofun that i was hearing. and after a year at BC i can tell you the social scene is PHENOMENAL.

I am looking to go into finance, and I saw on businessweek.com today that BC's finance department is ranked 8th in the nation while Villanova is 29th. I know that's a huge difference, but how important do you think it is to have a highly ranked major as opposed to the overall school?

Yea I really loved it when I first visited and I'm sure I'll love it when I go up this weekend. I'm obsessed with sports so that's a huge factor for me, especially since the business programs are so similar.

Metfan- thats a hard decision, my son was also looking at both schools (premed) Biology, but we are from NJ also and he was waitlisted at Nova.
Since we don't have the Villanova option he is deciding on BC or GW, two very different schools. We are going this weekend too and if my son loves BC I think thats where he will go. I wanted him to stay close by but I am excited about BC. Good luck to you, I think both schools are equally great as far as business reputation. It just comes down to location and yes sports! How about that hockey team!!!!
