any students from HPU around? what is the school like, can you recommend it? I read some pretty bad posts about Manoa university, run down dorms, poor academics, unfriendly people,.... dose that also apply to HPU?
I'm interested in a marine biology/oceanography major, or maybe just an environmental studies major....
after graduation I want to go on to a more competitive ivy league school, maybe law school (environmental law), or maybe I will stick with biology if I like it. I wouldn't bar my way to that with going to HPU, would I? I mean if I worked hard, got my top grades, did a lot of extra stuff and maybe graduated early...?

anyone....please

Hi.
Ive visited HPU and met with a professor there. I am considering going there but unsure. I'm not sure what you know about it but its a good school with small class sizes with teachers that really know their students. The location is obviously beautiful. There are two campuses about 20 minutes away. The windward campus is very calming with great views of the mountains and the ocean. Absolutely gorgeous. The other campus is in the city close to Wakiki. (excuse my spelling). It's said that the city campus tends to get kind of shady especially since there are no definate grounds to it and city people can just walk around it freely. Overall its a great school for marinebiology and oceanography. I'd recommend it.

HPU is better than UHManoa imo. For a marinebio/oceanography major I think HPU would be a pretty good place for you. Yea the windward campus is awesome. Windward >>> Leeward. If you really want to go to an Ivy League school for grad, you better be prepared to work your ass off in undergrad with school/extracurriculars/test scores.

I know someone who's going there. She really likes it.

A former student of mine is a Sr. She LOVES it. She was, as a high school student: driven, smart, academic and involved in many aspects of high school life. She's a beautiful girl with a plan and she has not been disappointed by HPU.

thanks for the comments. HPU doesn't sound all that bad after all.

I don't know a ton about the university, but I recall looking into it a couple months ago because I was thinking of applying. If I don't have it confused with another university.. I was pretty put-off, because if I remember correctly they only offer scholarships (or at least decent ones) to Hawaii residents. Granted it's relatively cheap to start ($26,764 total a year for tuition & R & B).

Edited to add:

I just looked at the HPU website and the only university-wide scholarship I could find for non-residents was:

Makana which is good for 20% tuition - 3.4/26 ACT
20% tuition = $2780

thanks. scholarships are definitely an issue. I won't be able to do without them. I will have to check.
