Although I've been enjoying this site for a couple of months now, this is my first post. Sorry if this question is stupid. D has applied for Hayes. I noticed the "competition" is set for Saturday, February 25. That also happens to the the final day of the Texas State Academic Decathlon meet in Houston. D is the only girl on the team and one of two seniors on the "A" team. Will she automatically be disqualified from competing for this scholarship? Hendrix has been rapidly moving up her list of schools she'd like to attend. Can anyone help?

You might drop a PM (private message) to Curmudgeon -- his D was accepted at Hendrix and he seems to be really up to speed with the scholarship info at all of the schools his D is looking at.

this question should be directed to someone at Hendrix...

Welcome to the board, maysixxmom!

I would encourage you to contact the admissions counselor for your area. Here is a link to the admissions staff with a list of the areas they service. My dd has applied for the Hays, too. I'm sure any of the admissions counselors would be happy to speak with you. Good luck!

I sent her an e-mail today. Just thought I see if anyone has/had a similar experience. Seems like there's always someone in CC that can answer almost anything! Thanks for the input.

Ahah! There you are. I had P.M. ed you and see that what I needed was right here. Well, I'd say definitely contact the "folks" at Hendrix and explain the "team" needs and the unavoidability of the conflict. We are having to do something similar. I sure hope it works out for y'all (and us).

I seem to recall that last year a few kids were able to do their interviews by phone under extraordinary circumstances. At least one international candidate did this. After your S/D gets in the application material, there is really only a presentation/interview left. Nothing that couldn't be done by phone if absolutely necessary.

Many, many thanks for the information. Helps to calm my much jangled nerves!

Got response from admissions. Alternate dates can be arranged. Whew! Just like MY mom, I'm a worrier!

maysixxmom
Embrace chocolate...it's the only way to get through this process!

maysixxmom, what were you told about alternative dates for the process and how long it might take on those dates?

SplashMom and C-mudge:
Been following your posts on Centre's site...don't know what I will do if you both move over there! I'm a bit lonely here! Anyone know for sure their child is attending Hendrix in the fall...Hays or no Hays?

Texasmom, in the end, DD has said it will all come down to who offers the most $$. She loves both schools and is happy what both have to offer in terms of classes, faculty, staff, students, activities, etc. It's impossible to even guess at this point which school might win out, but the one thing that Hendrix offers that Centre does not is 'stacking' of scholarships. DD continues to work on applications for outside scholarships.

What about your DS, Texasmom? Will he be attending Hendrix for sure?

Yes, he's there. Keeps bugging me to send in the $350 so he can make sure he gets the dorm he wants! I guess I'll part with the deposit when we go up for the Hays weekend...it's on his birthday, so guess he'll get a sweatshirt! I've been bugging him to complete the outside scholarship apps as well.
It's so strange since we thought for sure he'd wind up in Portland, but he's set on this little school in Arkansas that none of our families in California have ever heard of.

Good luck and much favor with your daughter's apps. I can't wait until it's all over and all I have to do is shop for dorm supplies!!!

I'm right there with you. I'll be happy when the whole thing is over, too. Hendrix does stack scholarships, so encourage your DS to plug away! That's what DD is doing. I think DD's Centre scholarship letter will arrive tomorrow, so I guess we'll just compare the two after that. Let's definitely paln to meet up during the Hays weekend. Maybe we parents can walk the campus and go to dinner together.

Sounds like a plan...we'll take when it gets closer. BTW...what does DD/DS stand for? Darling daughter/son???

I meant talk!

Yep. Although I secretly use DD sometimes to mean dufus daughter but only I know when. ;)

And I prefer "take". LOL.

O.K.. New news. My daughter and a friend stopped by a local eatery owned by our former down the street neighbors. Their daughter is also a senior. What is her first choice? Hendrix. LOL. She has also received a nice scholarship (D thinks 11+2 ). Who knew Hendrix would be flavor of the month?

I do believe that Hendrix is an up-and-coming school in terms of name familiarity. The folks around here and my family in Kentucky and Indiana have all heard of Centre, but few of them have heard of Hendrix. We've been trying to change that.
