Hazing in college?

I know it still occurs but to what extreme?

It is just like dumb stuff like standing on one foot while balancing a glass of water?

Or like disgusting and dangerous stuff?

Unless your going to a military related academy, I wouldn’t expect anything obscene or crazy. In regards to frats, if you call drinking till you puke (then keep drinking) hazing, then that’s really all you have to watch out for, and thats really only for those intense party-minded frats that originate at state schools.

To an extent, I think you have unnecessary worry.

This just remonded me about the movie Dazed and Confused.

Be smart. If it looks or seems like there is a high(er) risk of danger involved, then there probably is. I think there is a lot less hazing at the college level today than there was say 20 years ago, but it does occur within specifics of certain groups, like the frats and sororities. I never understood it - how does performing this act benefit you, me, or the connection/relationship between us? The answer is that it doesn’t and, personally, I don’t like to associate myself with people that aren’t genuinely invested in my well being. Speaking from experience (military hazing), I suggest others take the same road. It’s never worth it.

Yes it still occurs mainly with frats
I’ve heard of drinking games where they get you super drunk to see if you can hold your liquor

Also at the school I’m attending this fall this one tour guide told me about how her boyfriend got hazed
After a long day of hanging out with them drinking or whatever they do
They blind folded him, put him in a car ,drove him a few miles off campus “which is nothing but cornfields btw”
and he had to find his way back by sunrise or something …

Colleges beyond perhaps military institutes don’t haze. And generally fraternities don’t to the extent of what you would consider hazing, though there are the unfortunate few examples that are generally sensationalized.

Maybe you should do a google search on the college you’re going to and see if you can find anything about hazing. Or talk to some upper-classmen in frats.

No need to worry. At my school, hazing is strictly forbidden. We have a department within our school that focus directly on enforcing the no-hazing rule. Many responsible frat/sorority do not allow for its members to iitiate any sort of hazing at all. Theses brothers or sisters could be expelled from the chapters if they are caught hazing. So our college don’t do hazing.

Sure random, simple stuffs do happen…like swim across a lake in the winter, or run a mile outside with just your undies, or the such. But nothing a normal person would feel endangered to do.

But what do I know? I’m an incoming freshman myself…heard the stuffs above from both the Greek life director and the ppls who are actually on one of the chapter (TKE)

many schoold hazing is forbidden. sometimes simple stuff happens like the above post says but often times people can get into big trouble for hazing
